TYPE OF OBSERVATION:
Foundation Subgrade Review—Lots 5 and 6
GeoPacific engineering technician Eric Merritt was onsite to observe the foundation excavation for Lots 5 and 6 at the
Walnut Ridge site. It is our understanding that the planned structures will consist of single-family residences utilizing
conventional spread footings.
At the time of our site visit, the foundation excavation for Lots 5 and 6 was complete and extended 1.5 to 4 feet below
the surrounding grade. The foundation bearing soils consisted of native silt soils, which were evaluated with a%-inch
soil probe. Probing efforts resulted in 4 to 6 inches of penetration into the subgrade material, indicating medium stiff to
stiff soil consistency at each lot. The layout of Lots 5 and 6 slope to the north, and the footing plan includes multiple
steps. Footing-to-slope setbacks were evaluated and determined to be adequate. Footing-to-wall setbacks were not
an issue. Based on observed conditions, foundation subgrade soils as prepared are considered suitable to support the
anticipated allowable bearing pressures.
