Dear Mr Mitchell: ,
We are pleased to present the results of our geotechnical evaluation of the
settlement of the front corners of the house and the garage The property is
located and 7060 SW Lula Lane, in Tigard, Oregon We have proceeded with our
report based o,, your verbal authorization.
The soil to the area of the liuuse is a Soft to Medium Stiff, Brown, Claycy Silt.
The Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI) have
mapped the aiea. The geology is presented on the UOGAMI publication Open
File 0-90-2 Earthquake I{azard Geology Map of the Portland Metropolitan Area,
Oregon.
We explored the subsurface conditions in the area of the front coiners of the house
and the garage We advanced ?. borings to a depth of i) feet using a one inch
diameter hand auger. In both boruigs we encountcred 3.5 feet of Soft, Brown
Clayey Silt Fill over Medium Stiff, Brown Clayey Silt(native) No groundwater
was encountered
C,eotechnical Engineering Conclusions and Recommendations
The front corners of the house and garage foundation have settled approximately
two inches. The settlement appears to be the result of soft, uncompacted clayey
siii fill beneath the foundation. To support the foundation wall and prevent
seasonal movements we recommend the shallow, conventional concrete
foundations at the front comer of the house and the garage be wide pinned' to
support vertical loads. 'These and other related points are discussed in more detail
in the following paragraphs.

Undelpirnin Design
We recommend the existing, foundations at the front corners of the house and
garage be underpimied with 4 A. B. if ChAnce helical soil anchors or an equivalent
method 'The Underpinning anchors shrill be capable of achieving the emh--dment
depths and capacity limitations presented below.
Beruing Material: Medium Stiff, Clayey Silt
Minimum Tip Embedment. 10 ft below base of the footing,
Maximum Tip Embedment 20 feet below the b.Lse of the
footing or as approved by the
geotechnical engineer.
Anchor Ultimate Capacity 20 kips for Anchors
Anchor Proof Testing: 100 Percent of Design Load
Note: Underptnmrig anchors shall be installed according to manufacttuers
published recommendations.
Anchor Proof Testing Procedure
All of the anchors and should be proof tested. T! r proof testing she consist of
loading the each anchor in 5 equal increments to 'c',1%of the design load The
100%load should be held for 10 minutes. If the a hor movement between I and
10 minutes is less than 0.1 inches the anchor is ace table. If the anchor moves
snore than 0.1 inches the anchor should deepened id retested or abandoned and a
new, redesigned, replacement anchor installed.
Closure
This report has been prepared exclusively for the use c. William Mitchell for
specific application to this project. We are available to discuss any queAions you
may have concerning this report,
