An inspection was conducted today at the above referenced property to
determine the necessary items to be provie.ed in order to use the building
as a group care facility. You described t'ae intended use, as a facility
provi.-ling living/sleeping facilities for a maximum of eight persons (adult
women with possibly one child). The occupants will not possess any handicaps
or disabilities that would prevent them from taking immediate action (without
the ai.d of others) for self preservation, in the event of an emergency.
Based on the information provided the use will be classified as an SR-3
occupancy, as described in the State of Oregon 1990 Structural Specialty Code.
The following will apply:
1. The maxiwum number -if persons that m.w is eight.
2. The ma:.lmum r uiubei of persons that may occup•1 a bedroom is two.
3. The front door, vestibule door and d;mor from the first floor hallway shall
be a minimum of 3 feet wide and 6 foot 3 inches high.
4. r;ach bedroom shall. be separated from the remainder of the building by a
solid core door.. The doors shall be provided with d self-cloy+::-.w device,
latching hardware and smoke gasket.
5. The front and rear exterior stairs shall be modified to pro- !de a maximum of
7 inch rise and minimum 11 inch run per tread. A handrail shag ', be provided
on each side of the stairway. Handrails ahall be placed betweei, 34 and 38
inches above the nosing of t!,,a treads, shall extend a minimum c•f 6 .inches
beyond the top and bottom ox the stairs and termlaate at a post or wall. A
guardrail shall be provided on any landing or deck more rh&n 30 inches
above grade. The guardrail Fhall be a minimum of 42 inches in height, and
have intermediate rails spaced so a 6 inch sphere cannot pass through_
6. The stairway to the second floor shall be r minimum of 36 inches wide. The
maximum rise per tread shall be 8 inches and minimum run per tread shall be
9 inches. A handrail shall be provided. A guardrail shall be provided on
the second floor around the stairwell opening with a minimum height of 36
inches, with intermediate rails spaced so a 6 inch sphere cannot pass

the second floor around the stairwell opening with a minimum height of 36

through. There shall be a minimum of 6 foot F inch headroom mcabared
vertically to a plane parallel and tangent to the nosing of the treads.
7. The stairway to the second floor shall be Peparated from the first floor, by �y
walls and a dcor. The door shall be solid -,ore, with a self-closing device,
latching hardwire and smoke gasket. L
8. The second floor rc.om at the top of and open to the stairway shall not be 7"d "`
used for sleeping purposes.

9. All bedroom shall be provided with al least one window that complies for s.J
emergency escape and rescue. The only bedroom without a window in 6
complinace for. size, 1.e located on the second floor facing easterly. Most of w
the windows need to be adjusted or modified to he easily openable, some will
require repair or replacement. of "counter weights".
10. The attic access opening shall be covered with a tight fitting panel of
minimum 1/2 inch thick gypsum board.
11.. The basement shall be separated from the remainder of the building by
covering the malls and ceiling with 5/8 inch thick type "X" gypsum board
(walls which are of masonry or concrete are exempt from this requirement).
There shall be a door separating the basement from the remainder of the
building, the door shall be a minimum 1 3/4 inch thick solid core wood.
The door shall be provided with a self-cloeing device and latching
hardware.
12. The basement can only be used for light storage purposes. Continued use of
the laundry facilities is acceptable. A minimum 3 foot clear area must be
maintained around the furnace and chimney.
13. The Chimnel used for venting the furnace shall be provided with ar approved
liner. The furnace shall be provided with combustion air directly from the
outside. The combustion air shall be provided by ducting with an area equal
to 1 squc,r.e inch for every 1000 BTU input rating of the furnace. one-half
of the avea shall be located at the floor and one-half shall 1•,e locate,
at the ceiling.
14. An approved electrically supervised fire alarm and smo',e detection eyatem
shall be installed, the alarm shall be capable of being heard throughout
the building. All rooms used for sleeping purposes, hallways, stairways
and basement shall be provided with smok43 detectors. The system shall be
installed in accordance with Article 14 of the Uniform Fire Code.
Permits will need to be obtained for the work. to be performed, prior to
con iencement. You will need to contact the Washington County Electrical
Inspection department f-r any additional requirements pertaining to the
electrical code.
