The following actions are required to abate the hazard. All work on the site is stopped until items 1 and 2 are addressed. 1. Within 4 days from the date of this letter, a design shall be submitted by a professional engineer for temporary shoring to stabilize any portion of the subject cut which exceeds 4'- 0" in height. The shoring must be designed for a minimum equivalent fluid pressure of 45psf and must extend to the top of the subject cut. If the shoring does not extend to the top of the cut, then the design must consider the additional surcharge of the cut above the shoring. Additionally, the design must conservatively consider surcharge from the adjacent Muse. If you provide an acceptable goo-technical investigation which provides different recc..mmendations, we will consider that. 2. Within 5 days of the date of this letter. the subject shoring must be in place and inspected. 3 Prior to obtaining a footing inspection, an engineering analysis of the footing and foundation for the portion of the proposed structure adjacent to this cut shall be submitted. This analysis shall indicate whether the existing design of the footing/foundation is adequate, and why, and if not, what needs to be done to make it adequate. The analysis shall consider the appropriate equivalent fluid pressure of the back-fill material, the provision of drainage behind the wall and any appropriate surcharge from the existing adjacent structure. 4. On 6/11/98. a portion of the cut slope along the faulcai prnperty line caved into the exc*vation. The rrpproximate limits of the cava*are shown on Figurer+ 1 and 2.
