iThe geotechnical evaluation you authorized on March 14, 1997, has been completed. The
purpose of these services was to assist you and the engineers in designing foundations and
preparing plans and specifications for the construction of the new structures.
Summary of Field Exploration Results
Two (2) Standard Penetration Test (SPT) borings (B-1 to B-2) were drilled in the proposed
construction areas. The general soil profile was 7 to 10 feet of till soils consisting of silty sand
underlain by organic sandy silt vitt peat (OL) extending to depths of 26 feet below existing site
grades. Underlying the :organic soils was a medium dense sand (SM) extending to the maximum
explored depth of 3 t V, feet below existing site grades.

Groundwater was encountered at depths of 14 feet during drilling. Variation in groundwater
levels should be expected seasonall! , annually and from location to location. We anticipate :hat
the groundwater table may rise during months of peak runoff.
Summary of Recommendations
The site is underlain by incompet-nt fill and organic soils. If the proposed structures are placed
directly on the existing soils, the soil stratum will undergo settlements and may cause structural
distress. Therefore, based on our evzluation, it is our opinion that the proposed buildings
should be supported on piles extending into the competent sand soils present at depths ranging
from 26 feet to 30 feet below existing grades.
