I am writing to you ilt the request of Robbie Robertson of the J.R. Abbott Company
regarding the door with the hold-opens at the garage elevator door entrance.
On July 19, 1988, 1 had a conversation with Art Haverland of the State Elevator
Inspectors office, (503) 229-5765, regarding the proposed installation. I
explained to Mr. Haverland that:
1. Ther door will always be open except in the case of a smoke emergency.
2. When closed, the door is approximately 1211 from the face of the elevator door.
3. When closed, the door is easily openable from the elevator.
Mr. Haviland said that such an installation would be acceptable to the Depart-
ment and lie would so note it in the appropriate file.

Re: Ceiling Grid System - Lamonts Store
Dear Mr. Steele:
Enclosed is a set of calculations prepared by Mark A.
Anderson & Associates for the same ceiling grid system that
is being used in the Lamonts Store. The calculations are done
for a Zone 3 earthquake load. This store is located in Zone 2
which will produce a lower lateral load. The calculations
require four wire splay brace using 12 gauge wire every
223 square feet of ceiling. In the Lamonts Store a four wire
splay brace using 1.2 gauge wire will be installed for every
196 square feet of ceiling system.
Upon review of the calculations by Mark A. Anderson &
Associates I feel this system will be more than adequate to
provide the lateral support required.

The 3—hour separation betweeen the narking garage and the passenger
elevator shaft can be achieved by using a 3--hour rated door mounted in
front of the sliding elevator doors. The 3—hour doer will have a
passage lever and magnetic hold--opens which will L.2 smoke activated.

A fire and life safely plan review was conducted on the above-
captioned project for compliance with the 1985 editions of the
Uniform Building Code (1JBC) , Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC) , and the
Unifotm Fire Code (UFC) as smended by Washington County Fire
District No. 1 's Ordinance 86--1 .
The plans are approved subject. to the following items.
1 . Exit Door Obstruction: Exit doors opening to the outside
of the building (noted at the lower Level.) shall be
provided with a barrier so that vehicles will not
provide blockage to their opening.

2. Elevator Lobby Construction/Elevator Door: Build 3-
hour elevator lobby with 3-hour fire resistive door
assemblies. Leave out the over-head roll-down door
that would close in front of the elevator. If a fire
should occur on the upper level and people were to use
this elevator, they would be trapped possible between
the rolled-down door and the occurrence on the upper
level. If the south wall of the elevator lobby is
moved parallel and directly tinder the upper level(s) ,
exterior Mall then it may have unprotected openings.
This would allow store front to be installed in this
wall and would keep a more airy feeling in the

detection of smoke.
10. Exterior Exit Door: Hardware for the exterior 000rs and key-
operated deadlocks may be permitted where thete is a sign
posted on or over the door reading, "THIS DOOR MU"T REMAIN
UNLOCKED DURING BUSINESS HOURS" in letters not l.e,;s than
one inch in height on a contrasting background.

11 . Double Door Hardware: Where exit doors are used in Fairs,
approved automatic flush bolts shall be used on the second-
ary leaf. The dour having the automatic flush bolts m,lst
have no door knob or surface-mounted hardware. The un-
latching of any leaf must not require more than one opera-
tion.

12. Fir.estopping: lit al-1 wood-framed walls and partitions, fire-
stopping consisting of 2-inch nominally-sized lumber or
other approved materials must be installed at all floor and
ceiling levels. Penetratiuns in this prescribed firestopping
to accommodate wiring, plumbing and other similar utility
runs must be packed with noncombustible materials in an
approved manner so as to pr.event,t the passage of flame.

13. Insulatiot Flame Spread: The insulation, including breather
papers and vapor barriers which are not in contact with thc!
upper surface of the ceiling and under surface of the floor,
as the case may be, must have a flame spread rating of not
to exceed 25 and a smoke development classification of not
greater than 450 as measured on the Steiner Tunnel Test
scale referred to as UBC Standard No. 42-1.

15. Mechanical Equipment_ Approval : All heat producing and
electrical equipment and appliances installed in conjunc-
tion with the construction or occupancy of this project
must be approved by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. or
other nationally recognized testing agency and installed
in accordance with the testing rgency's specifications.

16. Address_Required: The tenant space number must be prom-
inently displayed on the street front where it is readily
visible to drivers and officers of responding fire
apparatus and other emergency vehicles.

17. Fire Extinguisher Requirements: Not less than one (1)
approved fire extinguisher(s) with rating of not less
than 2AlOB:C shall be provided for each 1500 square feet
of floor area or fraction thereof. The travel distance
to an extinguisher from any portion of the building
shall not exceed 75 feet.

18. Waste Storage: Commercial dumpsters and containers with an
individual capacity of 1 .5 cubic ,yards or greater shall not
be stored or placed with 5 feet. of combustible wall openingh
or combustible roofleave lines. For areas containing dump-
sters or containers protected by approved automatic sprink-
ler systems, the above may be waived.

20. Interior Finish: Interior finishes shall not exceed flame
spreads of 25 for stairways, 75 for corridors, and 200 for
other area. Smoke denisty of materials uses shall not exceed
450.

21. Draftstops: if combustibles are .left exposed in the
ceiling or attic spaces, then draftstops shall be
installed in compliance with the Uniform Building Code
Section 2516(f) .

ing the stamps of the Tigard Building Department and this
office must be maintained on the project Site throughout all
phases of construction and must be made available to build-
ing and fire inspectors for reference during required con-
struction inspections.

Target Store with unlimited area under UBC Section 506(b) and
Associated Land Use Agreements between the Cafaro Company and Target
Store.

A fire and life safety plan review was conducted on the above-
captioned project for compliance with the 1985 editions of the Unifnrm
Building Code (UBC) , Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC) , and the Uniform
Fire Code (UFC) as amended by Washington County Fire District' s
Ordinance 86-1.
Limited approval is granted on the submitted plans as they are only
for foundation work and do not contain adequate information to perform
a detailed Fire/Life Safety Plans Review. The foundation work plans
only are approved for construction.
