Box 127 Tualatin, Oregon 97062 Dear M-. 5richill : I am writing to request an appeal of the Building Department's interpretation of Section 3302 of the Uniform Building Code. Please reference attached plan for Hampton Oaks Office Building. Section 3302 (a) states that "Every building or useable portion thereof shall have at least one exit and shall have not less than two exits where required by Table 33-A." (Table 33A requires two exits only when occupancy of offices exceeds 30 or 3,000 square feet). Section 3302 (a) continues "In all occupancies, floors above the first story having an occupant load of more than 10 shall have not less than two units." It is our interpretation that the second floor Guardian Life tenant space comprising 893 square feet results in an occupancy of 9 and therefore requires one exit. This is provided through the lobby to the exterior of the building. ,all remaining tenants do have access to two exits on this floor. It is our contention that the inter, of the code has been met in that the tenant space clearly comprises an occupant load of less than 10, thereby requiring but one exit. We are exceeding this requirement by providing two exits from the proposed lease space of 951 square feet to the west of the Guardian Life space, and we are providing two exits from the space in t11e other pod of uss the lobby. f��'aP.
