PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 EXAMINATION Scotch-Clad Tm Deck Coating Systems may be used under the following conditions if a barrier coating is used as a vapor retarder(see separate data sheet for more information on Scotch-Clad Coating 2171 B/A): On- grade or below grade slabs split slabs with buried membrane, sandwich slabs with insulation, slabs over unvented metal pan. The following conditions must not be coated with Scotch-Clad Deck Coating Systems: Aphalt surfaces or asphalt overlays, suspended pool decks, swimming pools. Concrete must exhibit 3000 psi (20,7 MPa) minimum. Concrete surfaces to be coated must be trowel finished in compliance with ACI 301-84 paragraph 11.7.9 (except that hand troweling is not required), followed by a fine hair brooming, left free of loose particles, a id shall be without ridges, projections, voids and concrete droppings that would be mechanically detrimenta. to coating application or function. I A. Before coating is applied, inspect slab to receive coating. Surface must be free of voids, laitance, loose material on surface, grease, oil, rust and other contaminants which will affect bond of coating. B. Inspect slab for variations in surface finish, joint offsets and other defects that may adversely affect coating application or pe-formance. C. Concrete surfaces must be visibly dry and pass a 4-hour rubber mat test (no condensation) prior to application of coating system. D. Verify that curing methods used for concrete are compatible with requirements for coating system. E. Commencement of coa-'ing installation implies acceptance of slab as suitable to accept coating system. 3.02 PREPARATION A. Protect adjacent surfaces with drop cloths and tape, as needed, to control dust and overspray and to make lines as needed. B. Clean surfaces to rec, :,,e coating materials in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and recommendations. 1. Remove oil and grease with a commercial grade alkaline cleaner; thoroughly rinse and dry. 2. Prepare concrete surfaces oy sandblasting or blast track. Only new concrete (minimum 21 days) may be acid etched with 10 to 15 percent solution of muriatic acid. Flush acid with clean water and allow to dry. C. Sweep, blow or vacuum clean surfaces to be coated. D. Rout or sawcut 1/4 inch by 1/4 inch (6,A nim by 6,4 mm) minimum where system[s] [LDV] [MDVJ [HDV 351 [HDV 70][HDV 100]is to be terminated in a horizontal plane, and cracks exceeding 1/16 inch(1,6 mm)wide. a E. Sealant:Apply sealant, using backer rod as needed,to expansion, control and construction joints and routed cr cracks to be coated. Do not coat joints wider than one inch (2,5 cm). Install a 1/2 inch (1,3 cm) sealant v~i cove at deck projections where projections are structurally and rigidly connected to substrate, such as many types of posts, vents, pipes, stanchions, railings, rigidly connected wall/slab intersections and similar such - connected items having very limited movement. J c, F. Primer: Prime concrete, masonry and metal following manufacturer's recommendations. Protect sealant from primer spray. LLL) J G. Sheet Flashing: Install a inches (20,3 cm) minimum width of sheet flashing, fully bonded 3 inches (7,6 cm) minimum vertical and horizontal, and unbonded one inch (2,5 cm) minimum vertical and horizontal to locations of potential high movement such as wall/slab intersections which are not structurally and rigidly connected. Do not use precured sheet Trashing over expansion joints in horizontal surfaces. H. Flashing Reinforcement: Install 12 inches (30,5 cm) imbedded in detail coat 2 inches (5,1 cm) wider than flashing reinforcement vertical and horizontal at rigidly connected wall/slab intersections Edit the following paragraph to require detail coating for vertical surfaces higher than 2 inches (5.1 cm). Where water is expected to accumulate due to ponding, snow and ice build-up, excessive splashing,or other regional and project conditions, specify vertical detail coat 2 inches (5,1 cm) higher than anticipated high water exposure line. I. Detail Coat: Apply over preparatory work describQd in paragraphs D, E, F. G, H and cracks under 1116 inch (1,6 mm). Extend detail coat 2 inches (5,1 cm) onto deck on each side. (Extend ___ inches (_ cm) onto vertical surfaces where indicated]. 3.03 APPLICATION A. Base Coat 1. Apply coating material at an average dry film thickness of 25 mils (0,64 mm). Extend coating over detail coating. 2. Allow coaling to cure for 16 hours minimum. B. Light Duty Vehicular System (LDV) 1.
