It is oui understanding this nailing will_ be finished with a power hammer. 2 . 1 Condominium at 1.4934 S.W. 109th Three roof trusses over the living room were repaired as per our Drawing M206B001 which was submitted with our letter report dated January 19 , 1988 . Construction Inspection Canterbury Woods Condominiums 2 . 2 Condominium at 14938 S.W. 109th Seven new roof trusses have been installed and nailed to undamaged portions of existing trusses. All of the new trusses were a few inches short at the roof peak. Structural. 1/2" plywood and 2x4s have been installed to make up the difference . Also, additional blocking and lateral bracing has been installed to add strength and structural stability to the roof trusses. 2 . 3 Condominium at 14 )62 S.W. 1.09th Six roof trusses have been repaired as per our Drawing M2.06B002 , Revision #1 , and Drawing M206B004 . The only change not shown on the drawings is the substitution of 1/2" plywood structural #1 grade for 3/8" plywood as shown on the drawing. 3 . 0 CONCLUSION 1. Complete driving hardened nails in plywood gussets. 2 . All new roof trusses and work on existing roof trusses appears satisfactory and is approved. They were not. damaged , however, to the extent that requires they be replaced with new trusses. The damage consists of cracks in truss members and weakened connection plates. It is recommended that all trusses with cranked members or weak connection plates be reinforced wi ,h plywood as shown on our Drawing No. M206B001 in the Appendix. Stress analysis of repaired truss is also in the Appendix. 3 . 2 Condominium at 14936 S.W. 109th The structural damage in this condominium ccilsists of cracks in some of the floor joists and a damaged sun deck. The recommended repair of the floor joists is to add full length structural grade joists alongside and securely n-Aled to the damaged ones. The sun deck and adjoining wing walls can be restored to the original condition with replacement or repair of damaged components. 3 . 3 Condominium at 14938 S.W. 109th i In this condominium, seven roof trusses, roof tile, and the front wall were all_ severely damaged when the top section of the tree fell through the roof and into the living room. Some of the trusses are damaged more than others. There is extensive damage to the front wall bearing support for the trusses, but none to th? rear wall support. ( ENGINEERS Kennedy Construction File: M20611 Investigation of Damage to Canterbury Woods Condominiums S.W. 109th, Tigard, Oregon recommended that a new front bearing wall be constructed and new trusses be placed alongside and securely nailed to the damaged trusses. This ::old then be followed by new lateral bracing, closing up the roof and adding new insulation and ceiling board. In lieu of full length roof trusses , it will also be satisfactory to use a half truss of 23 ' -5" span. The half trusses should be securely nailed to damaged trusses. The support at the inner wall should be a 2"x4" header between existing posts plus a 3/8" plywood gusset to the roof peak post. See Drawing M206B003 in the Appendix. 3 . 4 Condominium at 14962 S.O. 109th The roof_ truss damage in this condominium is similar to that which occurred at 14934 S.W. 109th. There are six trusses which show cracked members or weak connections of diagonal members . It is recommended that all be repaired with plywood as shown on our Drawing No. M2.06B002 , which is in the Appendix. Stress analysis of repaired truss is also in the Appendix. 4 . 0 ALUMINUM SIDING Two of the four condominiums show buckled or loosened si-ding.
