Gentlemen: This is a Fire and Life Safety Plan Review and is based on the 1988 editions of the Fire and Life Safety Code (UBC), Mechanical Fire and Life Safety Code (UMC), Uniform Fire Code (UFC), and other local ordinances and regulations. Plans are conditionally approved subject to the following items: 1. Automatic Sprinkler Plans: Plans referred to and examined by this office contain no provisions for the alteration or installation of automatic sprinkler system. Not less than three sets of plans for the installation shall be submitted to this office for approval prior to installation. UBC 302(b) Trip Tests of Ansul Fire Protection Systems: All trip tests for the Ansul Fire Protection System shall be witnessed by a member of this department. Please provide 24 hour notification prior to anticipated trip test.times. Contact person will be Ron Tobias or Jerry Renfro and can be reached at 626-2469. 3. Hood and Duct Shaft: Hood and duct fire resistive shaft were shown on neither shell design or the interior modification design. Hood and duct shafts shall be located on a set of prints and shall be of not less than one hour fire resistive construction. Construction chosen by the architects shall be so indicated on the plans in detail relating to the shaft material and detail assembly that is to be used. 4. Rear Exit Sign: Rear exit door sign shall be located at the entrance of the hallway so that it can be seen from seating and food service area. Address Required: The tenant spare number must be prominently displayed on the street front where it is readily visible to drivers and officers of responding fire apparatus and other emergency vehicles. UFC Sec. 10.208 6. Fire Extinguisher Requirements: Not less than one (1) approved fire extinguisher(s) with rating of not less than 2AIOB:C shall be provided for each 1,500 square feet of floor area or fraction thereof. The travel distance to an extinguisher from any portion of the building shall not exceed 75 feet. UFC Standard 10-1 7. _Firestopping: In all wood framed walls and partitions, firestopping consisting of 2-inch nominally-sized lumber or other approved materials must be installed at all floor and ceiling levels. Penetrations in this prescribed firestopping to accommodate wiring, plumbing, and other similar utility runs must be packed with noncombustible materials in an approved manner so as to prevent the pr,ssage of flame. UBC Sec. 2516 8. Double Door Hardware: Where exit doors are used in pairs, approved automatic flush bolts shall be used on the secondary leaf. The door having the automatic flush bolts must have no door knob or surface mounted hardware. The unlatching of any leaf must not require more than one operation. UBC Sec. 3304 9. Landing:; at Doors: There must be a floor or landing on each side of all doors. The floor or landing must not be more than one-inch lower than the threshold of the doorway unless serving access for the physicatly handicapped. UBC Sec. 3304(h) 10. Waste Storage: Commercial dumpsters and containers with an individual capacity of 1.5 cubic yards or greater shall not be stored or played within 5-feet of combustible wall openings or combustible roof/eave lines. For areas containing dumpsters or containers protected by approved automatic sprinkler systems, the above may be waived. UFC Sec. 11.201(d) 11. ApprovedPlans on Job Site: One set of approved plans bearing the stamps of the building department issuing the construction permit and tlus office must be maintained on the project site throughout all phases of construct ion and must be made available to building and fire inspectors for reference duri.-Ig required construction inspections. UBC Sec. 303 12. Required Occupancy Certificate: Prior to the use and occupancy of the project (space), a certificate of occupancy or other written instrument of approval must. be obtained from the builduig department issuing the construction permit.
