Our original geotechnical report dated April 30, 1993 recommended 95% compaction Plative ASTM D-1557 for granular structural fill, and Chapter 70 of the building code requires 9)%. It is our opinion that compaction to originally specified relative dry densities would increase the 1 otential for differential settlement of the footings. Tt►is is of particular concern where continuous foot ing are to overlie abrupt transitions between silt ani deep crushed rock fill. We have observed 0 a overexcavation of soft/loose soil from areas of footing subgrade at the site, as well as observed rept mentative portions of granular backfill and compaction up to footing subgrade elevations. Although we did not perform nuclear density testing on the granular fill in foundation areas, based on our i ibservations it is our opinion that the granular fill placed under footing areas is suitable for foundat on support.
