the entire firebox side of the war m-air fui pace.
A permanent electric outlet and lighting fixture c ntrolled by a switch located at the
required passageway opening shall be provided at or near the furnace.
9. Section 709. A warm-air furnace installed in the under-floor area of a building shall
co m ply with the following require m eats:
An access opeTLng and passageway of a height and width sufficient to permit removal
of the furnace, but in no cane less than 30 inches by 30 inches, shall be provided to
the working, space in front of the furnace. The acc-ss opening to the passageway
shall be through an opening in an exterior wall of the building or through a trap dors
within the buiLiing. The distance from the passageway access to the center line of
the working space in front of the furnace burner shall not exceed 20 feet measured
along the cen'.ex line of the passageway.
A 'urnace supported from the ground shall rest on a concrete slab extending not leas
than 3 inches above the adjoining ground leveL

A fire and life safety plan review was conducted on the above-
captioned project for compliance with the 1985 editions of the Uniform
Building Code (UBC), Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC), and the Uniform
Fire Code (UFC) as amended by Washington County Fire District's
Ordinance 86-1.
1. Turning Radius and Acce:;s Roadway Widths: Turning radius and
access roadway widths are inconsistent between the site engineer-
ing plans by Burton Engineering and the site architectural plans.
Working off Burton's plans driveway widths are acceptable. Turn-
radius at the northeast corner at building E is not acceptable.
Outside turning radius shall be of not less than 45 feet and in-
side minimum turning radius of not less that 25 feet.

2. No Parking Signs: No parking signs shall. be installed on both
sides of the 20-foot wide driveway stating "NO PARKING" "FIRE
LANE" "ORS 478.920". The sign shall be of contrasting color and
shall be installed no lower than 4 feet nor higher than 6 feet
above grade.
3. Fire Blocking: Double-stud walls, kitchen anJ bathroom soffits,
etc. , shall have fire blocking at 10-foot intervals as prescribed
in Uniform Building, Code Section 2516(f)2A.
4. One-Hour Occupancy Separation: One-hour occupancy separation
is required between the garage B-1 and the apartments R-1. Open-
ings in these separations are required to be of not less than
1-hour fire resistive, self-closing or automatic closing assem-
blies. Fire door assemble is made up of the fire door and all
the hardware frame, etc.

5. Fire Retardant Roof: These structures are of such size that
they require a fire-retardant roof. Two hundred thirty-five-pound
composition shingles will meet the requirement provided all por-
tions of the roof are covered with not less c.han a double layer of
shingles.

6. One-Hour Fire Resistive Construction: In detail 3/5 the gutter
area of the walk surface for the second flior apartments does not
comply with 1-hour fire resistive construction. Either• form addi-
tional concrete into the gutter area or install multiple 2 x
blocking (two layers or more) on both sides and under the gutter

design or locate and submit fire-resistive listing for the assem-
blies shown.
9. Attic and Crawlspace Furnaces: Access to and installation of
furnaces shall comply with Uniform Mechanical Code, Section 703,
708, and 709.
10. Handrails: Handrails shall extend a minimum of 6 inches beyond
the top and bottom stairway risers and shall terminate in a newel
post or in some other safe manner.

packed with noncombustible materials in an approved manner so as
to prevent the passage of flame.

16. Insulation Flame Spread: The insulation, including breather

A fire and life safety plan review was conducted on the above-
captioned project for compliance with the 1985 editions of the Uniform
Building Code (UBC), Uniform Mechanical Code (UMC), and the Uniform
Fire Code (UFC) as amended by Washington County Fire District's
Ordinance 86-1.
1. Turning Radius and Access Roadway Widths: Turning radius and
access roadway widths are inconsistent between the site engineer-
ing plans by Burton Engineering and the site architectural plans.
Working off Burton's plans driveway widths are acceptable. Turn-
radius at the northeast corner at building E is not acceptable.
Outside turning radius shall be of not less than 45 feet and in-
side minimum Lurning radius of not less that 25 feet.
(UFC Sec. 10.207)
2. No Parking Signs: No parking signs shall. be installed on both
sides of the 20-foot wide driveway statin; "NO PARKING" "FIRE
LANE" "ORS 478.920". The sign shall be of contrasting color and
shall be installed no lower than 4 feet nor higher than 6 feet
above grade.
3. Fire Blocking: Double-stud walls, kitchen and bathroom soffits,
etc. , shall have fire blocking at 10-foot intervals as prescribed
in Uniform Building Code Section 2516(f)2.A.
4. One-Hour Occup cy Separation: One-hour occupancy separation
is required between the garage B-1 and the apartments R-1 . Open-
ings in these separations are required to be of not less than
1-hour fire resistive, self'-closing or automatic closing assem-
blies. Fire door assemble is made up of the fire door and all
the hardware frame, etc.

5. Fire Retardant Roof: These structures are of such size that
they require a fire-retardant roof. Two hundred thirty-five-pound
composition shingles will meet the requirement provided all por-
tions of the roof are covered with not less than a double layer of
shingles.

6. One-Hour Fire Resistive Construction: In detail 3/5 the gutter
area of the walk surface for the second floor apartments does not
comply with 1-hour fire resistive construction. Either form addi-
tional concrete into the gutter area or install multiple 2 x
blocking (two layers or more) on both sides and under the gutter
in the joist channels.
7. One-Hour Fire Resistive Construction: (Typical party wall draw-
ing detail on sheet 5. ) Single blocking in the joist spat? shall
be at least doubled.

8. One-Hour Fire Resistive Construction_: (Detdils A/5 and B/5-
garage. ) To the knowledge of this plans exagniner, a single; layer
of 5/8-inch type X gypsum board applied directly on trusses does
not make for a listed assembly. Also, floor/ceiling assembly is
not locatable within UBC Chapter 43 tables of other fire-resistive
listing manuals (i.e. U.L. or Gypsum Association). Either re-
design or locate and submit fire-resistive listing for the assem-
blies shown.

packed with noncombustible materials in an approved manner so as
to prevent the passage of flame.

16. Insulation Flame Spread: The insulation, including breather
papers and vapor barrier- which arc not in contact with the
upper surface of the eciling and under surface of the floor, as
the case may be, must .have a flame spread rating of not to ex-
ceed 25 and a smoke d,2velopment classification of not greater
titan 450 as measured on the Steiner Tunnel Test scale referred
to as UBC Standard No. 42-1.

trical equipment and appliances installed in conjunction with the
construction or occupancy of this project- must be approved by
Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. or other nationally recognized
testing agency and installed in accordance with the testing
agency's specifications.

2 . Address Required: The tenant space numoer must be prominently
displayed on the street front where it is readily visible to
drivers and officers of responding fire apparatus and other emer-
