Dear Mr. Schwartz,
In our telephone conversation of September 7, 1989, you inquired about the
reason there is a sump pump under your home, and if it was required by the
City.
I have .reviewed the City records for your home, and have found nothing that
indicates whether the C!.ty required one or not.
A sump pump is sometimes the only way to remove water that accumulates under or
around a building, due to surface or ground water conditions, and it is cert-
ainly better to have one, than to have water accumulating, and potentially
causing dryrot or health hazards.. Those conditions can change as development
takes place in the area. Where there is a need for a Pump pump at one time, the
ground or surface water conditions may change resulting Ln no water accumula-
tion at a Inter date, or the reverse of that can happen.
