Dear Ms. McAlonen:
It has come to the attention of this department there is a severe water build
up under the building at the above referenced address.
Water within the crawl space area of a building is not only an unsanitary
condition for the occupants, but it can cause serious structural da►sage.
It will therefore be necessary to provide a permanent drain system for the
b-jilding.
In our telephone conversation of May 1, 1984, we discissed the problem of
storm water runoff in the area. One problem is the storm drain ditch along
S.W. North Dakota St. , which requires cleaning to provide a proper channel
(Please note the City Public Works Dept. has been notified of the problem).
Because it appears the ground water level is above the footing level of the
building, the only solution will be to install a permanent "sump pump" under
the building.
As for the discharge of the "sump", another problem arises. There is no
record of storm drain location in the ,area, there is a "catch basin" located
on the south at corner of your property. It appears the discharge would
have to be properly piped to that drain.
Your prompt attention to this matter will be required.

Dear Mrs. DeFord:
Per your request of March 23, 1984, I conducted an inspection of your
residence.
Excessive dampness within your apartment is believed to be caused for two
re�.sons:
I . Water accumulating under the building within the crawl space ar ,a.
2. Fire damage to unit above yours, allowing rain water to infiltrate
structure.
T. was shown to the east end of your building where I observed a "MdKe-shift"
sump pumped had been installed, there is an obvious problem with water under the
bui.ldirg.
This could most certainly be a cause for moisture within your building. It
will not only create an unsanitary condition for occupants, but can have a
serious affect upon the underfioor structure.
As :or item number two, the building has been made weather tight, but it is
pos4.ible the structure had become saturated from water infiltration during
its exposure. fhe moisture within the building is now being drawn out by
heat From the units. This will take some time for the building structure
to dry.
1 feel the most serious problem I observed was water under the building.
This department will be taking action to have a proper drain provided for the
building.
