Dear Sonny.
This report follows our phone conversations regarding this residential lot and our
subsequent site inspection conducted on this date. Following are our comments based on
the field observations and previous experience last year with your Lots 5 and 6, located on
this same side of SW Esser,. street.
S17 E CONDITIONS
The subject lot upon which you intend to construct this new home, is located on the
downhill side of SW Essex Drive, directly opposite its intersection with SW Westridge
Terrace in Tigard, Oregon At the time of our inspection, this lot consisted of a narrow
curb high strip of filled ground adjacent along the street, and a partially fill-affected slope
which falls below the street at an average declivity of 1.5 horizontal to 1.0 vertical angle.
This slope extends completely through this lot and for some distance beyond to the canyon
bottom. The overall slope has obviously been particlly altered by the placement of
uncompacted tills, minor construction debris, etc , from vie development of the street and
lots on either side of this parcel Patchcs of grass and one small woody bush in the center
of the sit( currently act to stabilize the loose overburden soilF against erosion. At this
writing, the slope was stable, showing no signs of imper?ding failure, slumping, erosion, or
sliding tendencies

CONSULTATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
In addition to discussions with you regarding the intended structure, and our site
visitation, we have also contacted Payton Rowell (,structural engineer) regarding the
foundation design approach and considerations for support of the outlying decks to be
constructed behind the home As with the two homes previously constructed on Lots 5
and 6, we do recommend for the use of fully reinforced and continuous concrete walls and
footings throughout the home. We do recommend against a pian using earth retaining
walls ccnstnucted into the slope below the structure for the creation of yards We in fact,
recommend against any sidehill fill work out side of the structure under any circumstance
due to the potential fix causing slope instabilities. Decks extended outside ofthe structure
should be supported on independent pier pads secured well into the firm and undisturbed
native soils. Earth anchors or an equivalent product may also be used to achieve that goal
if'desired
We recommend against disposal of any excavated soil onto the slope of this site due to the
potential for initiation of slides. All excavated materials not needed for immediate
structure backfill, should be removed from this lot for remote disposal. All backfill
materials (soil or gravel) should be compacted as tightly as practicable and the ground
surface should be hydroseedPc;, straw covered or plastic covered in order to mitigate
erosion during winter menthr. A dense planting scheme is needed to ultimately prevent
erosion and the effects of gravitational creep in slopea
In conclusion, we have not been asked to conduct subsurface test explorations of soil
conditions at depth. These comments are professional opinions based on experience with
your engineer, our local experience in these slopes on other projects, and the type of
structure which you have previously built in this slope We trust this information fully
meets your needs on this project. Please feel free to contact this office should questions

Dear Sonny:
This report follows your phone call last week, and request for a final grading inspection
on this lot. We confirm that we conducted a site inspection around the subject home on
Friday, March 30, 2001. During that visit, we also acquired a copy of the City of Tigard,
Approved Final Erosion Control Inspection Report, dated January 9, 2001.
We have inspected the slopes surrounding this structure and the adjacent homes during
this time. The soil backfill around this home well covers the foundations, and has been
straw covered to aid in erosion control. Wooden "steps" have been constructed down the
slope on either side of the home and aid to create foot access as well as control erosion
from rainfall on the slope. Weeds are slowly infiltrating the lower slope below the home
to mitigate erosion potential. At this writing„ the soil is holding well as a result of your
efforts. As you are aware, intensification of plantings is the best means of' further
improving soil stability over the long—term on slopes of this nature. We recommend that
you continue to monitor all slopes affected by cutting or filling to assure that conditions
do not degrade. Overall, this project looks good and we wish you well.
