Dear Mr. Miller:
Section 1204, 1985 Uniforw Building (;ode, state: that where windows are provided as a
means of escape or rescue they shall have a finished sill height of not more than 44
inches abo e the floor. Since the window height in the master bedroom ;.s 46 inches ;k .gh,
a smoke detector shall be installed and inspected to provide an early warning to any
occupants using this room, to comply with the intent of the code.
Also, this room should be used for adults only unless a platform is provided under the
escape window, ttie platform to be a minimum of 36 inches in heiiht, and of a minimum
size of 36 inches by 24 inches. This is to provide access fo_ young children to use
this window as a means of escape, since the window height of 46 inches would make it
difficult for children to use it as a means of escape from the bedroom.
