This letter will clarify our discussions at the Canterbury Apartments, at 1060 S.W.
Canterbury Road, Tigard, Oregon on April 22, 1985.
Drawings by others indicate new footings to be placed directly on the existing swimming
pool slab. These footings typically support only one floor level , co^�tributinq maximum
loading or approximately 2000 pounds. The floor purlins are spaced at 4'-0" on center
with wood posts at approximately 10'-0".
Three rows of beams through the pool area also support from bearing walls a second
floor. Posts and footings under these three rows of bea�,s shuuld be spaced at 5'-0"
on center maximum.
It is acceptable to plane all of the proposed footings directly on the existing
abandoned swimmingool slab. The existing concrete should be roughened to 1/4 inch.
amplitude and four14 x .12" minimum rebar drilled into the existing concrete. Embed
the rebar 4" minimum into the existing concrete.
The extent of our review has been limited to our opinion of the footings being located
directly in the existing swimming pool concrete. Should you have additional concerns,
please feel free to call us.

the 1982 editions of the State of Oregon Structural Spe-
cialty Code and Fire and Life Safety Code (UBC ), the state
of Oregon Mechanical Sperialty Code and Mechanical Fire and

A one ( 1 ) hour fire-resistive separation is required between the

Not less then one ( 1 ) approved fire extinguisher
with rating of not less than 2--A: 10-6: C shall be
provided for each 6, 000 square feet of floor
area or fraction thereof. The travel distance to an
extinguisher from any portion of the building shall not
exceed 75 feet. UFC Staniard 10-1
Provide every Group R dwelling unit with approved smoke de-
tectors. Detectors shall be mounted on the ceiling or wall
at a point centrally located in the corridor or area giving
access to bedrooms. UOC 1210(a )
For private stairways the rise of every step shall rot
exceed 8 inches and the run shall be riot less than 9 inches.

The largest variation in tread width or riser height within
any flight of stairs shall not exceed the sma? lest by pore
