Ewing 4499 09-23- 94 : CTI representative reviewed shop drawings for beam and purlin hanger.; from Western Wood Structures , Inc. for the above project. Per this review she Engineer, Paul Gilham, was asked to clarify the intent of weld symbols. Per this discussion, the following resulted; 1) Engineer was asked to what extent the groove welds shovm as bevel and square groove welds require a specific effective throat (see all square and single and double bevel groove welds shown by Sheet 1) . Engineer advised that in all these cases that no minimum Effective throat is needed. Rather, Eagineer advised, these welds are specified to prevent cracking of fillet welds, which are structural. Where double bevel groove welds are shown (such as for beam seat S1) , the Engineer advised that these welds are not really carrying structural loads . 2) Weld symbols shown. by details for hangers S3 , S4 and S4R/L are reversed from the way welds actually should be provided i.e. "arrow side" welds need to be provided on "other side" and visa-versa. Our reports pertain to the material rested/inspected only. Information contained herein is not to be reproduced, except in full, without prion authorization from this office. Place assembly inside solvent tank. NOTE: BE SURE EXCESS LINER BAG MATERIAL DOES NOT BLOCK VAPOR PASSAGE OF SOLVENT TANK. B. Load used solvent into solvent tank. NOTE: 7.5 gallon maximum capacity 3.5 gallon minimum capacity C. Close and secure lid assembly by pushing straight clown, then turoing both latch knobs 1/4 turn to the left. 3 5. OPERATION A. Turn Power Off/On Switch (located on control enclosure) to on. (This activates the condenser fan, supplies power to the temperature control board, and to the power side of the main contactor and switches. ) B. Turn Cycle On Button to the right. Cycle On light will light up. (Main contactor closes and power is supplied to the heating element.) C. Install drain pipe from condenser outlet pipe to collecting container. Drain pipe cannot be submerged in collection container solvents. NOTE: The condenser outlet should be at a higher elevation than the inlet of the collecting container. D. Clip Green/Yellow ground wire to any metal part of collecting container. 6. DISTILLATION A. Distillation starts within 30 to 60 minutes, (depending on the sclvent being distilled. ) Distillation continues at a rate of approximately 3 gallons per hour. B. During the distillation process, the amount of liquid in the tank decreases, and the temperature rises from approximately 2000F. (initial boiling temperature) to the preset cycle cut- off temperature. This occurs when approximately 95% of the solvent has been distilled. 7. TERMINATION A. When the preset Cycle Off temperature is reached, the Cycle-On Light will go off. B. The condenser fan will continue to operate and the distillation process will continue until the remaining liquid in the tank is distilled or cooled below its boiling point. NGTE: This should take 30 minutes. YOU SHOULD WAIT A MINIMUM OF 30 MINUTES BEFORE OPENING LID. 4 C. Turn the Power Off/On Switch to off. (This de-energizes the fan motor and the temperature control board. ) D. To remove lid, push straight down and turn both knobs 1/4 turn to the right, clean per cleaning instructions in Step 11 . 8. MANUAL TERMINATION A. Turn the Cycle Off/On Switch to off. B. WAIT A MINIMUM OF 30 MINUTES. Turn Power Off/On Switch to off. C. Remove lid and clean per cleaning instructions in Step 11. 9. RESTART A. When the cycle is terminated by either the Cycle Off/On Switch or the Cycle Off thermostat, it can be restarted by turning the Cycle Off/On switch to the "On" position if the following conditions are met: Evaporator temperature is below the set point of the Cycle Off/On thermostat. There is a minimum of 3 gallons of solvent remaining it the tank. 10. HEAT CONTROL SWITCH A. The heat control switch is designed to control the amount of heat input during the distillation cycle. The Heat Control Switch will produce a highly effective operation, and a better return of distilled solvent. B. The Heat Control Switch works by regulating the input of energy into the heater similar to the way the control dial of an electric range regulates the heat of a burner. C. The Heat Control Dial is numbered 1 to 7, with 1 being the lowest heat setting. D. Solvent Boiling Point (OF. ) Heat Control Setting <150 2 to 3 150-300 3 to 4 300-400 4 to 5 400-450 5 to 6 k 5 11 . Shore Protection Manual, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Waterways Experiment Station, 1984. 2. Design of Small Dams, United States Department of the Interior, Bureau of Reclamation, 1987. The riprap size recommended in our previous letter exceeds the size determined by the analyses due to aesthetic and constructability requirements. Deepened Footings As shown on the test pit logs in our previous report, th,;rh is a change in material color from brown to gray at a depth of about 8 feet. The consistency and gradation of the two soils are similar, and the moisture content is significantly higher in the gray soils. It is our opinion that the upper soil is suitable for support of the bridge abutments on shallow fooiln s, and that there is no significant advantage in extending the footi,Ags down to the lower gray sails.
