City Wins $2 Million Grant To Spur Investment and Jobs The City of Tigard has won $2 million in federal funding to support economic development and new jobs in Tigard's industrial and commercial area known as the Hunziker Core. The U.S. Economic Development Agency will contribute to the overall $5.7 million in infrastructure investments for new road, sewer and water service to stimulate more development and job creation in the 138-acre area. Fall Ballot Measure on Light Rail Authorization Tigard Ballot Measure 34-255 asks voters if the City of Tigard shall enact an ordinance allowing city support for extending MAX light rail service to Tigard, including downtown Tigard. The ordinance would not authorize the use of city funds or impose or increase any fees or taxes. Read more... Tigard Voters to Decide Fuel Tax Ballot Measure Tigard Ballot Measure 34-256 asks voters if the city shall increase the local fuel tax by 5 cents per gallon for street system improvements, repair and maintenance. If the measure does not pass, the city's Street Maintenance Fee for residents and businesses would increase on Jan. 1, 2017. Read more... Marijuana Tax Ballot Measure Tigard Ballot Measure 34-257 asks voters if the city shall impose a 3 percent tax, or the maximum rate allowed by the state of Oregon, whichever is greater, on the sale of marijuana items by a licensed marijuana retailer. Four Candidates Vie for Two City Council Positions The November 2016 ballot will show four candidates who are running for two City Council openings: Jason Snider, Tom Anderson, Bret Lieuallen and Tristan Irvin. Robert Rogers has been named the interim chief of the Tigard Police Department.
