Page 3 of 5 Police Chief Orr Retires, Capping Decades of Public Service After seven years leading the Tigard Police Department, Police Chief Alan Orr stepped down as head of the 89-person force on Aug. 31. A retirement celebration in Orr's honor will be held on Sept. 30, 1-4 p.m., in the Community Room at the Tigard Public Library. The public is invited to attend. Read more... Popular Tigard Street Heritage Trail Gets Funding Boost The City of Tigard received a $700,000 grant from the Oregon Department of Transportation's ConnectOregon program, to improve the Tigard Street Trail as a heritage trail that also celebrates Tigard's cultural and economic history. The multiuse pathway connects residents with jobs in downtown Tigard, neighboring industrial areas and the region via transit. Read more... A Third Year Taking it to the Streets ... with Ice Cream For the third summer in a row, Tigard residents joined city staff for the cafe-on-the-corner event series. The outreach brought employees and an an ice cream cart to eight neighborhoods to share conversations and hear local concerns on traffic, safety, parks and making Tigard an easier place to navigate by walking. Text-to-911 Service Now Available in Washington County As of Aug. 23, Portland Metro area 911 centers, including in Washington County, have had the ability to communicate via text-to-911. The service is intended to assist people who are unable to speak during an emergency but who can send an ememergency text message. Read more... Community Shares Ideas on Future Metzger Park City staff and its consultant team have been working hard since January 2016 on plans to allow public use of Metzger Elementary School as a park outside of school hours.
