Tigard Public Library Board Minutes
MEETING DATE/TIME: Wednesday,June 8, 2016 7 p.m.

1. CALL TO ORDER:
Chair Scott Hancock called to order the June 8,2016 Tigard Library Board at 7:02 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL
Present at the meeting were: Scott Hancock, Katie Harris,Jan Thenell, Roarke Van Brunt,Alternate Becky
Gauthier,Library Director Margaret Barnes and Executive Assistant Alison Grimes. Linda Monahan and
Michelle Taylor were excused; Cole Weber was absent.
3. APPROVE MINUTES
Although the Board reviewed the minutes and noted several changes, there were not enough members
present who attended the May meeting to approve the minutes. The May 11,2016 minutes were tabled
until the August meeting.
4. AGENDA ADDITIONS AND DELETIONS
Add Library Board's summer meeting schedule under Item 9 - Other Business
5. CALL TO THE PUBLIC
No staff members were present nor was anyone from the public.
6. LIBRARY USE GUIDELINES
After noting the additions of a smoking ban on all City-owned property beginning July 1, 2016 and dealing
with patrons with offensive body odor, the Board approved the revised document.

7. SUMMER READING PROGRAM
The program kicked off June 1 in the Community Room with the popular band, Chicamarimba. This year's
theme is `Fitness.' Barnes handed out the Summer Reading adult and teen brochures to the Board. It was
reported that Sean Garvey,Adult Services librarian,gave an abbreviated tour of downtown Tigard to some
3rd graders when the class came to visit the library. Popular programs for teens include the loud and popular

Taiko workshop. Barnes also noted that Tigard now offers wireless printing for patrons and encouraged the
Board to sign up for Summer Reading.
8. LIBRARY OPERATIONS
Summer Reading kicked off June 1; the current fiscal year comes to an end June 30; the Library's budget for
2016/17 will remain the same as the previous year. Security cases are being removed from the white-labeled
Blu-ray collection at the beginning of July,which should improve workflow efficiency. Blue and pink
labeled blue-rays are the most recent and popular blue-rays on the shelves and will remain in security cases.
The current guest pass process is being changed. Patrons will now go directly to the Reference Desk to
obtain a guest pass to access the Internet. The Adult Services division is in the process of getting Adobe
Cloud operational for the public. A soft opening will occur soon.
As the May statistics were not fully complete,they will be presented to the Board in August.
9. OTHER BUSINESS
Hancock asked the Board what their schedules were for the summer and wondered if any meetings should
be cancelled due to lack of a full Board. It was decided to cancel the July meeting and meet next at the
August 10 meeting.

Barnes noted that the library received no applications for the vacant Board position as Monahan's term
expires June 30. It was decided to extend the recruitment process into July. An alternate position is also
open. Barnes asked the Board to promote the open position to possible applicants who live within city
limits.
A brief overview of the City budget for Fiscal Year 2016-2017 was also presented.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 7:39 p.m. The next meeting of the Tigard
Library Board is scheduled for Wednesday,August 10, 2016 at 7 p.m.in the second floor Conference
Room, 13500 SW Hall Blvd.,Tigard.
