The Plan for a New City Hall TH PLAN
The City Council placed a bond measure on the November 3 General
Election Ballot . If approved this measure will fund construction of new
library and police facilities , and the renovation of the existing library,
police and water buildings to accommodate other city services .
Over the past year , a committee of citizens and staff met to review the
current facilities and consider options for accommodating future growth .
The first option discussed was to add second stories to the existing
buildings . The existing buildings were designed to accommodate second
stories .
This option was not selected for three reasons . First , the parking needed
to serve the expanded facilities could not be accommodated on the
ond , adding on to the existing buildings would only
current site . Sec
accommodate the city' s needs for ten years . Third , reinforcing the
existing structures to comply with earthquake codes would cost about the
same as new buildings . To provide adequate parking and space to meet
service needs for twenty years , the police facility could be located at the
current Public Works site on Ash Street. All other services would remain
at the civic center .
