EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK
May 15-21, 2016
WHEREAS, Emergency Medical Services is a vital service to the community, the
members of emergency medical service teams are ready to provide compassionate,
lifesaving care to those in need 24-hours a day, seven days a week; and
WHEREAS, Access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival and
recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and
WHEREAS, EMS plays a critical role in public outreach and injury prevention, and is
evolving in its role as an important member of the healthcare community; and
WHEAREAS, The emergency medical services system includes paramedics, s
rj firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency physicians, emergency nurses,
emergency medical technicians, emergency medical dispatchers, educators and
administrators; and
+.� WHEREAS, The members of emergency medical services teams, whether career or
volunteer, enhance their lifesaving skills by completing thousands of hours of
specialized training and continuing education; and
WHEREAS, Tigard residents benefit daily from the knowledge and skill acquired by `f'V
these highly trained individuals, it is appropriate to recognize the value and
accomplishments of emergency medical service providers. 2y
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, John L. Cook, Mayor of the City of
Tigard, Oregon, do hereby proclaim the week of May 15-21, 2016 as
EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK
in Tigard, Oregon and encourage people throughout the city to honor these brave men
and women for a job well done. r
