Tigard Public Library Board — Minutes MEETING DATE/TIME: Wednesday,March 9, 2016 7 p.m. MEETING LOCATION: 13500 SW Hall Blvd., Conference Room, Second Floor 1. CALL TO ORDER: Chair Scott Hancock called to order the March 9,2016 Tigard Library Board at 7:02 p.m. 2. ROLL CALL Present at the meeting were: Scott Hancock, Katie Harris,Linda Monahan,Michelle Taylor, Cole Weber, Roarke Van Brunt,Alternate Becky Gauthier,Library Director Margaret Barnes and Executive Assistant Alison Grimes.Jan Thenell was excused. 3. APPROVE MINUTES The board reviewed and, after noting that Jan Thenell should be added under the Roll Call as excused, approved the minutes from the February 10 Board meeting. Motion—Harris Second - Monahan Hancock—Aye Harris—Aye Monahan—Aye Taylor-Aye Thenell—Excused Weber-Abstain 4. AGENDA ADDITIONS AND DELETIONS Roarke Van Brunt was congratulated for being appointed by the Mayor and City Council to replace member Nicci Walker who resigned her position. Van Brunt will fill the remainder of Walker's term which runs through June 30, 2019. 5. CALL TO THE PUBLIC Kyle Harris, a member of the Library's Foundation Board, attended the meeting. 6. SUSAN SHANKS,SENIOR PLANNER,COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT Susan Shanks, Community Development Senior Planner, spoke to the Board about the Tigard Triangle Redevelopment project. For the urban renewal portion of the redevelopment, a committee needs to be formed to help guide development and prioritize projects. The board would be comprised of 8 to 12 members and would meet monthly for about six months. If anyone is interested, she would need to know by the end of the month as the members need to be appointed by Council. Kyle Harris told Shanks that he would be interested in becoming a member. 7. JOINT MEETING WITH BEAVERTON LIBRARY BOARD Barnes spoke with Beaverton Library Director,Abigail Elder, and May 11'hwould work well for them to come to Tigard for a joint meeting. The board would like to hear about the library's strategic plan process. The meeting would be held at Tigard. Hancock asked the board to think about any other topics and come prepared to discuss this at the next meeting. Barnes distributed the Library's March Strategic Plan progress report for the Board's review. 8. JOINT MEETING WITH CITY COUNCIL The annual joint meeting with City Council will be held Tuesday,April 19. As the Board is primarily focused on funding, they want to discuss a way to ensure funding for the Library so it is able to continue to provide services and hours to serve the Tigard Community. 9. LIBRARY OPERATIONS The February statistics were distributed for review. The Portland Opera had a grand piano delivered for their program which drew over 150 attendees. Barnes told the Board that staff overheard a young patron thank Erik Carter, one of our librarians, for all the assistance he had given her over the years. It's encouraging to know that patrons are grateful for the assistance Library staff gives them. 10. OTHER BUSINESS ■ LIBRARY TRENDS Hillsboro's Book-o-Mat was discussed along with lockers as a pick-up point for patron holds. 11. ADJOURN There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:26 p.m. The next meeting of the Tigard Library Board is scheduled for Wednesday,April 13,2016 at 7 p.m. in the second floor Conference Room, 13500 SW Hall Blvd.,Tigard.
