We are writing to inform you of our recommendations for changes to the original
engineering design. As requested we have reviewed adding openings in the lower
level walls at the rear of the home and required headers over new sliding doors to
be installed at the main level and lower level.
At the main level,we recommend using a 4x10 header over the new sliding door,
shearwalls were not affected. At the lower level,we recommend a 6x10 header
over the new sliding door. The shear wall is now only to one side of the door and
is a minimum of 3'-9". This wall is a Type S wall with HDU5 holdowns. We
recommend adding an MST60 strap per Detail CS1 at the crawispace side of the
wall. We also require adding a joist at the crawlspace that is in line with the shear
wall so that.an MST48 strap can be added to help drag the load between the beam
line under the master bedroom and the shearwall.
