CONTRACTOR ACTIVITY,OBSERVATIONS,CONCLUSIONS,RECOMMENDATIONS:
I made this visit at the request of Don Durst to observe the condition of crushed rock backfill for a portion of the
foundation. While on site, I met with the contractor. I spoke with Mr. Durst by telephone. •
The interior continuous footing for the home was excavated such that a near vertical slope several feet high was within
about 1 foot of edge of footing.
At the time of my arrival on site the contractor had placed a crushed rock sliver fill along the cut edge so that there
was a 2 to 3 foot wide flat bench adjacent to the footing. The fill was then inclined downward at about 2H:1 V. I
observed the operation of a jumping jack compactor and confirmed that the fill was well compacted.
In my option, the backfill for the intermediate footing has been prepared in general conformance with my re
commendations and will perform as intended to provide vertical and lateral support for the footing.
