Dear Sheila,
It is my understanding that your contractor, Steve Allen, created an egress window in the basement by
cutting down an existing window opening to provide the proper height above the floor slab to the
bottom of the new window opening. I further understand that the window opening was not widened,
but remained the same width as the original opening. Steve provided me a diagram that indicates the
opening was then framed with pressure treated 2x6 lumber surrounding the opening. Steve also
indicated he constructed a new window well using pressure treated 4x4s and 2x 10s. Based on this
information, I can conclude that the enlarged opening did not compromise the existing foundation and,
in fact, the lateral pressure on the wall is reduced due to the lowering of the grade in the area of the
new window. Please call if you have any questions. ;,1J1 J`J
