City of Tigard Press Release 13125 SW Hall Boulevard I Tigard,Oregon 97223 www.tigard-or.gov FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 16, 2015 Contact: Joanne Bengtson,Exec. Asst. to the City Manager&Mayor City of Tigard 503-718-2476 Joanne@tigard-or.gov Mayor Cook Donates Wad Mini to Tigard Youth Program Tigard Mayor John L. Cook surprised SupaFresh Youth Farm Program Director Katrin Dougherty with the gift of a new iPad Mini tablet to help youth and staff involved in this valuable YouthSource program. The SupaFresh Youth Farm is part of YouthSource, a program of the Oregon Human Development Corp. The program targets under-served youth and teaches them workforce skills, entrepreneurship, organic sustainable agriculture, nutrition and life skills. Tigard youth in the program manage two garden classrooms - one on the grounds at Durham Elementary and one at Metzger Elementary School. Mayor Cook received the device during a recent U.S. Conference of Mayors meeting in San Francisco. The device was given to Mayor Cook by San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee in order to keep paper use to a minimum during the conference. Mayor Lee then asked mayors to consider donating the tablet to a community organization in their city. Mayor Cook said he decided to donate the new iPad Mini to SupaFresh because of the great work they're doing on behalf of Tigard youth who lack opportunities -including access to new technology- that many of us take for granted. "Electronic devices are so much a part of our daily lives that we forget some people lack even basic access -it's my privilege to be able to present this kind of opportunity to our youth."
