Margaret Doherty (D-Tigard), the Oregon Legislature approved a measure in the final day of the legislative session to support public infrastructure, development and private sector investment in Tigard's Hunziker Industrial Core creating new sites for businesses and higher levels of employment in this city with 50,000 residents. "Jobs have always been one of my top priorities," said Rep. Doherty. "The Hunziker project will bring good jobs to Tigard." State funding of$1.5 million for a capital project in Tigard's Hunziker Industrial Core is part of an estimated$5.5 million in public infrastructure (roads, waste water, storm water and water infrastructure) improvements. New public infrastructure will improve access to 138 acres of surrounding underdeveloped property zoned for employment uses. Tigard's industrial core lies on either side of Hunziker Road southwest of Highway 217 and west of SW 72nd Ave. This area is home to over 90 manufacturing firms. New public infrastructure will improve business access within Tigard's industrial core.As a result of new public infrastructure, the city expects private sector investment of up to $36 million and ultimately between 115 and 320 new jobs. This would double the job density per acre in this part of the city. "Tigard is home to more than 3,300 businesses, employing more than 42,000 workers from across the region," said Tigard Mayor John Cook. "The city greatly appreciates the actions of our legislature and Rep. Doherty in promoting infrastructure investments that supports private investment and puts more people to work." New public infrastructure in the Hunziker Industrial Core supports one of the City of Tigard's strategic goals ensuring development advances the vision of a more connected city where underdeveloped land is used efficiently and a healthy business climate attracts, serves and employs more Tigard residents.
