Re: Burnham & Ash Apartments Tree Protection Inspection
This is the first Tree Protection Inspection for the Burnham & Ash Apartments
demolition work. These inspections will be performed two times per month through the
completion of this phase of the construction work. The inspections will take on or about
the 10th day and the 20th day of each month.
The tree protection fence as required for this site by the Burnham& Ash Appartments
Tree Protection Plan has been installed as specified with two exceptions. Orange plastic
snow type fencing with a height of 4 feet has been used in place of minimum height chain
link fencing with a height of 5 feet. Large concrete cylinders about 42 inched tall have
been used in place of steel posts. The fence appears to be acceptable given the location
of the tree and the surfaces surrounding it. The concrete cylinders appear to also be
acceptable because they provide more than adequate support for the fence fabric. They
are also heavy enough that it is not likely they will be moved easily in the event of impact
by heavy equipment. I discussed the variations in the fence with Jeff Wagner, General
Superintendent, for the contractor,Environmental &Demolition Services. He stated his
work plan did not intend to have traffic near the fence as there is a large distance between
the building he is removing and the tree protection fence.
The protected Oregon White Oak located on the southeasterly edge of the site appears to
be in good condition at this time. All other tree protection measures are being maintained
at this time. The following photograph shows detail of the fence installation.
