Hello Kurt,
Since you are installing a new window in a load bearing wall, you will need a building permit. You can download a
building permit application by going to our website, www.tigard-or.gov, and clicking on the Forms link at the top of the
page. We will need three sets of plans that can be hand sketched if you prefer. The plans will need to show the wall
construction and framing around the window, including stud size, header size, king studs, and trimmers. Normally we
would need two sets of engineering, but if you have plans that show how the load is distributed, engineering won't be
necessary. If you have additional code related questions, feel free to contact Dan Nelson, our plans examiner, by calling
503-718-2436. Also, if you have any questions about the permitting process, please let me know.

house. The house is 2x6 construction. Window will be 36X72 inches(72) inches wide. What are the framing code
requirements (header and studs) and what is the permit process?
