Youth Advisory Council - Minutes
MEETING DATE/TIME: Tuesday, February 3, 2015, 5:30 p.m.

1. CALL TO ORDER
This meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL
Members in attendance: Carter Kruse, Caleb Torgerson, Zach Dean, Mike Coloma, Maddie Joel,
Zahra Hashmat, Adam LaFountain, Tyler Nickla, Elsa Schuman-Lanier, Shaun Rasmusen
Absent Members: Rayman Kirby,Jezeth Zaragoza,Jordan Stephens, Breanna Bennett,Joseph
Murche, Christopher Rebolledo, Amy Jensen
Staff in attendance: Marty Wine, Councilor Henderson
3. OLD BUSINESS:
• Mike moved to approve January 20, 2015 meeting's minutes Tyler seconded and the
movement passed unanimously.
• Neff has given us permission to paint the courtyard. We will need to come up with a
formal proposal and approach him with it.
• Reading to kindergarteners will be this Friday from about 1:10-2:20 p.m.
We will be getting prearranged absences from Carter or Student Services.
• Zach will be checking out Qdoba and Burgerville to see about possible fundraisers.
• We completed nominations for the January Youth spotlight. Alex McKnight was
selected.
• Update on the Dog Video Competition:Judging will take place from March 23-April 3.
• SPED Program: It was suggested that rather than just attending one field trip we work on
setting up a mentorship program with SPED. We would have weekly tasks and would
plan monthly outings as a group. Carter will have more information by the next meeting
and potentially have assignments ready.
• Youth Summit: A schedule was proposed outlining the timeline for the Summit (attached to the
minutes). It will have eight speakers with four speaking before lunch and four speaking
after lunch. There will be a 45 minute lunch break and 10 minutes of time between each
talk. We have also reached out to the Tualatin Youth Council about working together and
collaborating on the project.
4.NEW BUSINESS
• National League of Cities Conference: Sophomores and Juniors on the Youth Advisory Council
have been invited to apply to go on a trip to Washington DC with airfare, lodging
conference fees and food paid for by the City of Tigard. The trip will go from March 6-11.

Applicants must write a 1,000 word essay answering two questions and submit the applications
by next Tuesday, February 10th. Two winners will be selected. Email Marty with any questions
regarding the trip.
• Adopting a street, details on the courtyard project, and the DARE/GREAT program have been
tabled for the next meeting
