Sara Kelso,Adult Services Library Assistant,was December's staff guest. A long-time resident with a
background in business,Abbey was hired as Circulation Supervisor in May. Married, with two children,
Abbey previously worked at Tualatin Public Library and was a member of their Library Advisory Board. As
scheduling is one of his main duties,Abbey color-coded the scheduling process to make it easier to
determine staffing needs. He tracks data from the self-check machines, door count statistics and is
occasionally called upon to deal with more challenging issues or conversations with patrons and staff.

6. LIBRARY POLICIES REVIEW
o Confidentiality of Library Records Policy: Policy tabled for discussion until the January 2014 meeting.
7. LIBRARY OPERATIONS
Two well-attended programs were held in November; the annual MegaCraft program and the 50'Birthday
of the Tigard Library, which drew over 500 attendees. High attendance at programs seems to be reflective
of the hours change and Thursday closure at the Library. Trish Stormont,Volunteer Coordinator, has been
collecting statistics regarding volunteer retention; for example, how many volunteers who signed up in 2010
are still here? The Library's Annual Patron Survey is scheduled for the first two weeks in February. Any
Board members who would like to help staff the survey table are to contact Margaret. This year's Oregon
Reads honors William Stafford, who would have celebrated his 100`'birthday in 2014. His son, Kim,will
speak about his father and his poetry. Harris spoke about the City's on-line survey, questioning if the dollar
amount to reopen the Library was correct.
8. OTHER BUSINESS
o LIBRARY TRENDS
Emailed PEW Report to Board members for their review. Although the first and foremost need is
books, community perception of libraries is changing to that of a gathering place and a place to go
to learn new technology.
WCCLS Passport Program—need proof of being an Oregonian; a driver's license would suffice. A
Board member wondered if a current WCCLS library card is the passport. Barnes will research the
program for more information
9. ADJOURN
There being no further business,Monahan adjourned the meeting at 7:40 p.m.
The next meeting of the Tigard Library Board will be Wednesday,January 8,2014 at 7 p.m. in the second
floor Conference Room of the Library, 13500 SW Hall Blvd.,Tigard.
