Tigard Public Library Board — Minutes
MEETING DATE/TIME: Wednesday, February 12,2014 7 p.m.

1. CALL TO ORDER:
Vice-Chair John Storhm called to order the February 12,2014 Tigard Library Board at 7:03 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL
Present at the meeting were: Katie Harris,Linda Monahan,Dan Snyder,John Storhm and Jan Thenell;
Library Director Margaret Barnes and Executive Assistant Alison Grimes. Laura Cadiz and Scott Hancock
were excused.
3. APPROVE MINUTES
The Board reviewed the January 8, 2014 Library Board minutes and, there being no additions or corrections,
approved the minutes as presented.

4. AGENDA ADDITIONS AND DELETIONS
Add April Volunteer Event to Item #9—Other Business.
5. CALL TO THE PUBLIC
Janet Ellena, Circulation Library Aide, attended as February's staff guest. Coming to the library from the
Tigard/Tualatin School District in 2011, Ellena already had knowledge of the Polaris system. Ellena takes
pride in the building and keeps things presentable for patrons by shelving, making sure the books are in the
proper order, and general tidying up. Ellena enjoys her job and feels the staff and volunteers do a
wonderful job.
6. LIBRARY POLICIES REVIEW
After review,and there being no additions or corrections,the following two policies were re-adopted by the
Library Board:

7. LIBRARY OPERATIONS
Barnes gave a brief synopsis of the William Stafford event; his son, Kim spoke about his father and his
work. The MLK,Jr.Weekend of Service was well attended; there were three separate groups who came in
to volunteer their time. The Library also hosted four separate Story Times with the Oregon Symphony,
sponsored by the Friends,with musicians playing different instruments accompanying the stories being read.
This event was very well attended by both children and adults.
Carpeting on the second floor continues in the evening and on Thursdays. Finally,January statistics were
reviewed.
8. ANNUAL LIBRARY PATRON SURVEY
Survey numbers will probably be down a little due to the snow closure (Saturday,February 8 and Sunday,
February 9),but otherwise the survey is going well. The survey is available on paper at the Library and on-line,
in Cityscape,Books&Bits,Facebook and Twitter,and on the Library's web page.
9. OTHER BUSINESS

April 13—Curtis Tigard's 105'Birthday Celebration
August—Celebration of 10'Anniversary of New Library

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:01 p.m.
Due to a conflict, the next meeting of the Tigard Library Board will be Wednesday, March 19,2014 at 7
p.m. in the second floor Conference Room of the Library, 13500 SW Hall Blvd.,Tigard.
