Call to the Public
Nancy Niccum, Library Assistant in Circulation, was this evening's staff guest. A native
Oregonian, Niccum has been with the Library for three years. Also holding a degree in
nursing, Niccum just finished a 120-hour refresher course. She enjoys her work at the
Library as it is a break from the stress of nursing. An avid reader, Niccum has noticed
an increase in circulation since starting here and she enjoys the interaction she has with
patrons. She thanked the Board for their commitment to the Library.
Library Operations
Copies of March's stats were distributed and reviewed. Items circulated for this past
month were the highest ever— 135,604; the poor weather conditions probably
contributed to the higher stats. Budget meeting begin next week and no reduction in
Library services (hours, staff, and collection development) is expected. Barnes also
noted that 150 attended the kick-off for Hearing Voices.

Patron Survey Recap
Barnes briefly reviewed some of the statistics garnered from this year's annual Patron
Survey. A total of 3,094 surveys were received; the largest responders being in the 26-
60 age groups. Overall, patrons were again pleased with all aspects of library services
and felt that programming and books for children and adults were the top-rated needs.
Annual Meeting with City Council
The Board finalized their agenda for the upcoming annual meeting with City Council.
Heath will open and close; Storhm will show the e-reader and present info concerning
on-line resources, Facebook and the Library's webpage update. Nguyen will assist
Storhm with information. Hancock will provide various programming statistics and how
the programs serve various portions of the population.
Policies
Review of Library policies will be moved to the May meeting.
Other Business
• Library Foundation — Monahan announced that Nguyen is now President of the
Foundation and she has resigned from the Board. They're in the process of
working with a consultant to consider various library expansion options as, by 10
years from now, the Library will definitely need to expand. Nguyen noted that
members are still needed for the Board.
• Library Trends — None
• Library Board Recruitment — Heath, Vasicek and Storm's terms expire in June so
all three would need to reapply. The Alternate's position also needs to be filled.
Barnes asked that if Board members knew of anyone wanting to serve, to please
let them know.
Adjournment: There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:31 p.m.
The next Library Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. in
the Conference Room at the Tigard Public Library, 13500 SW Hall Blvd.
