2012 State of Oregon "Downtown Manager of the Year"
Tapped to Lead Economic Development in Tigard
Oregon City's Downtown Manager he ped attract over$1 million in private investment to downtown Oregon City each of the past
fouryears.
Lloyd Purdy, founder and four-year Executive Director of Oregon City's downtown revitalization organization,
has been named Tigard's new Economic Development Manager. Mr. Purdy will begin his new job on August
5.
"Tigard is home to thousands of businesses,large and small." said Kenny Asher,Director of Community
Development. "To leverage both the region's strength as an export-intensive economy and Tigard's growing
list of success stories downtown,we needed to take our Economic Development program to the next level.
Lloyd has demonstrated a knack for creating partnerships and brands that make a difference."
Over the last four years,Mr. Purdy helped draw more than$3.2 million in grant funds to downtown Oregon
City. During his tenure as director of a public/private partnership called Main Street Oregon City, downtown
Oregon City has seen the addition of more than 48 new businesses and more than $1 million annually in
private -sector investment.
"The foundation of local economic development builds upon strong public/private partnerships,place-
making and community building," said Purdy. "This foundation supports sustainable economic development."
Mr. Purdy's recent work includes Illuminate Oregon City, a quarter million dollar restoration of the Oregon City
Municipal Elevator that pairs National Endowment for the Arts funding with local place making investments.
Working with partners at Portland State University, he also developed a "Residential Roadmap" that outlined
tactics and strategies to drive more residential development to downtown Oregon City. Mr. Purdy's work with
local business owners,property owners, and public officials helped spur additional infrastructure
improvements to the $13 million Arch Bridge restoration. At the same time, through collaboration with
Oregon City's creative entrepreneurs,Purdy managed the national award winning"Blue Collar Creative" business
recruitment campaign that invited creative professionals and entrepreneurs to consider Oregon City as a
location for their business.
Lloyd Purdy earned his Masters in Public Administration from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University and a
Masters of Landscape Architecture from SUNY-ESF. Before relocating to Portland he was the Downtown
Manager in Cortland,NY.
