Youth Advisory Council - Minutes
MEETING DATE/TIME: Tuesday,January 20, 2015, 5:30 p.m.

1. CALL TO ORDER
This meeting was called to order at 5:32 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL
Members in attendance: Carter Kruse, Rayman Kirby,Jezeth Zaragoza, Mike Coloma, Maddie
Joel, Zahra Hashmat, Adam LaFountain, Jordan Stephens, Breanna Bennett, Tyler Nickla, Zach
Dean, Elsa Schuman-Lanier,Joseph
Absent members: Caleb Torgerson, Shaun Rasmusen, Christopher Rebolledo, Amy Jensen
Staff in attendance: Marty Wine, Councilor Henderson, Rudy Owens
Visitor: Neal Brown
3. OLD BUSINESS:
• Minutes from January 6 meeting were approved.
• February 6th Reading: Carter has not received word back on our trip to the elementary
school
• Special education trips: Kelly, the special Ed coordinator at Tigard, is bringing it to
administration on whether or not we can chaperone one of the special education trips and it
is looking hopeful
• Marty has not received word back from the middle schools that have been sent letters
• It is a possibility for us to now adopt Main Street
• We have gotten permission from Mark Neffendorf, principal of Tigard High, to paint the
courtyard located at the school. We could partner up with clubs at the school or other third
parties for this project
• Community Service idea: A project to promote Tigard's walkability
• Youth Summit: Possible dates (3/10-12 or April 10). A 6-hour opportunity from noon to
6 p.m. where attendees visit seminars. We could apply for a grant from the city to help with
funding. We could also provide food for those in attendance. We could also include some
physical activity sessions in addition to our guest speakers. A partnership with the Tualatin
YAC is possible. It could take place at either Twality Middle School or Tigard High School.
• DARE program: The DARE program is copyrighted, therefore we cannot use it. The
GREAT curriculum could be a possible alternative. We need to contact the student resource
officers. Other ideas: Guest speakers, make our own curriculum, Tigard Turns the Tide

4.NEW BUSINESS
• We have been asked to be judges for a dog video contest by Rudy Owens, Tigard's
Communications Strategist. We would judge videos of a dog's view on a walk to test Tigard's
status as the Most Walkable City
• January Youth Spotlight:Joey Stefani (Pt place during wrestling tournament). Everybody is
challenged to think of a student for the February Youth Spotlight by next meeting.
