Youth Advisory Council - Minutes

1. CALL TO ORDER
This meeting was called to order at 5:32 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL
Present: Carter Kruse, Caleb Torgerson, Rayman Kirby, Zach Dean, Shaun Rasmusen,Jezeth
Zaragoza,Jordan Stephens, Mike Coloma, Amy Jensen, Christopher Rebolledo, Breanna
Bennett, Elsa Schuman- Lanier,Joseph Murche, Maddie Joel, Zahra Hashmat, Tyler Nickla,
Adam LaFountain
Absent members: Nathan Ung
Staff: City Manager Marty Wine, Mayor John Cook
Guest: Neal Brown
3. OLD BUSINESS:
• Shaun moved to approve last minute's meetings, Mike seconded the motion and the
motion passed.
• Zach has created the design for the shirt: a white polo with the City of Tigard logo on the
right breast and "City of Tigard Youth Advisory Council" on the left breast. The cost will be
around $10 and a fundraiser may be organized to help with the cost.
• A draft certificate has been created, including the signatures of the School & Rec chair,
the President, and the Mayor.
• The Youth Advisory Council now has its own website! Check it out at www.tigard-yac.com
4.NEW BUSINESS
• Mayor Cook will be serving as our liaison for the remainder of the year until City
Council finds a suitable replacement.
• The City of Tigard has secured the funds for a feasibility study for a YMCA in Tigard and the
YAC has been asked to support the cause.

• Nominations for Community Youth of the Month:
- Jonathan Nguyen (Ambassador leader @ Mary Woodward)
- Tiffany Lee (outstanding behavior)
- Zack Chesler (Student Recognition of the Month)
- Brendan Schuman-Lanier (outstanding behavior)
- Corey Fusick has been chosen for the November Youth of the Month for his fundraiser
that raised $5000 for Alzheimer's research.
- Lauren Brown has been chosen for the December youth of the Month for creating the
Random Acts of Kindness Wall.
Only high schoolers have been chosen - we need to select middle schoolers
• Warm clothing drive: Set up buckets, distribute containers at stores to collect clothes,
make posters/advertise digitally
• Fundraiser ideas: restaurant fundraiser
• Attendance and consequences: give notice before a pre-arranged absence
