7. ANNUAL MEETING WITH CITY COUNCIL
Monahan's emailed list of suggestions for the joint meeting with City Council was distributed to Board
members with raw data responses noted in red. As the meeting with City Council is scheduled for Tuesday,
May 21, the Board still has the April and May meetings to firm up their agenda. Burke will review the list
and email Board members for any final input before finalizing the list. Snyder suggested talking about the
statistics and working up from the lowest to highest numbers. During April's meeting, the Board will put
the statistics in order and assign roles. It was requested to put the statistics from questions 2 (The library
circulated 1,482,027 items in 2012, of which 799,046 [53.9%] were adult materials, 93,717 [6.3%] were young
adult materials, and 589,264 [39.8%] were children's materials.), 3 (The library provided 375 Story Times,

(The library helped patrons discover ereaders and ebooks through 316 interactions at the Reference Desk
and six classes attended by a total of 108 people.) on posters to use as visuals. It will be discussed and
finalized whether to put a short statement or just the statistic on the poster and the member would talk
about it.
8. LIBRARY OPERATIONS
Barnes informed the Board about a robbery in the community and about the detective who came in the evening
requesting computer records information. Internet reservation information is retained for approximately 24
hours. Video footage from the security cameras was provided. The 2013-2014 budget will remain basically the
same as last year's. Some general maintenance is being performed in various areas of the Library. Walls in the
long hallway in the Circulation workroom have been covered in acrylic sheeting to further protect the walls
from damage. The wooden doors to both lobby restrooms have been removed. The carpeting will need to be
addressed sometime in the near future. A second defibrillator has been installed on the second floor. In 2014,
a library will have been in Tigard for 50 years;it also marks the 100`''birthday of William Stafford, Oregon's
Poet Laureate. These and other ideas are being explored as possible events for 2014.
