Motion — Heath Second — Levear Burke —Abstain Levear- Aye Hancock—Abstain Monahan -Aye Heath —Aye Nguyen —Abstain Vasicek - Absent Agenda Additions and Deletions Barnes will give a PowerPac presentation after the Call to the Public. Call to the Public This evening's staff introduction was Sarah Jesudason, Adult Services Supervisor. With the Library for about six months and already well-known for her Thursday morning Stand-Around ditties, she sang a short Library Board-themed song before telling the Board a little of her background. She also informed the Board of the upcoming LSTA gaming grant and that Readers Services staff were already preparing programs for Summer Reading. Projecting the Library's web page on the screen, Barnes showed the Board PowerPac - how to access and check their personal accounts, put items on hold, search for books by title, author, subject, etc.; and highlighted on-line resources like Library2Go, Reference USA and the Gale Virtual Reference Library. Library Operations The annual workshop meeting with City Council will be Tuesday, May 18 at 6:30 p.m. Barnes asked members to let either Alison or herself know if they will be able to attend. The group discussed possible topics for the meeting and Storhm suggested showing Council the more non-traditional activities the Library is doing —the LSTA gaming grant being the perfect example. Other topics would include support of the upcoming operational levy and underserved groups. 95 adults and children attended the Super Bowl party and staff hosting it received thanks from many of the attendees. The Tigard Reads programs have also been well attended. Statistics for the self-check out are up and overall circulation remains high. The Fanno Creek Bridge project is now almost complete and open to the public. A dedication is scheduled for March 23 at 1:30 p.m. Library Policies Barnes distributed the Social Media Policy for the Board's review and input. The policy explains social media and describes the various media types available at the Library. Comments will be moderated by staff and may be removed at the Library's discretion. Before distribution, this policy will be forwarded to the City's attorneys for their review and approval. The Board discussed various types of media —Twitter, Facebook and Chili Fresh were some examples. Annual Survey Update As the Library is in the final days of the survey, Barnes will have statistics for the board next month. Comments she has read on some of the surveys have been positive. WCCLS Update Barnes noted that WCCLS also has a survey link posted on the website, which may have been confusing to patrons. The annual Hearing Voices program is scheduled for April. She also noted that the WCCLS distribution for 2010/2011 for Tigard will be $2.868 million. Other Business Library Trends — Barnes handed out a copy of a news release that the British Library would be offering free eBook downloads to Kindle owners this spring. Barnes and Library managers are still exploring the possibility of adding Blu-Ray to the collection but no decision has yet been made. A question was raised about the proposed Beaverton branch library on Scholls Ferry Road, but Barnes had no information about it. Adjournment: There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:23 p.m. The next Library Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Room at the Tigard Public Library, 13500 SW Hall Blvd.
