Dear Ike,
I have reviewed you job referenced "0314167 - - Craftsman Construction", and
have determined that in lieu of the nailed connections specified by
HIPFRAME0109 to attach the hip frame to the trusses you may substitute the
follow:
1. For hip trusses other than the #1 hip; use 1 Simpson TJC37 to fasten the
wide face of the hip frame web to the wide face flat top chord of the truss
at all overlapping points. The Simpson TJC37 connector must be installed
on the downward slope side of the truss using 8d x 1.5" (0.131" x 1.50"),
fill all round holes.
2. For the #1 hip:
a. Bevel a 2x6 DF-L to match the pitch of the roof.
b. Fasten the beveled 2x6 DF-L member to the wide face of the flat
top chord on the upward slope side of the #1 hip using 1 Simpson
TJC37
3. Fasten the wide face of the beveled 2x6 DF-L member to the chord of the
hip frame using 1 Simpson TJC37 using 8d x 1.5" (0.131" x 1.50"), fill all
round holes.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
