Johns Manville
I
Description
Johns Manville (JM) PermaPly 28 is a lightweight, asphalt- coated,
fiber glass base felt. It is manufactured by coating a JM wet
process fiber glass mat with a weathering grade asphalt, and then
surfaced with a fine mineral parting agent.
PermaPly 28 is well suited as a replacement for coated organic
base felts, as the fiber glass (inorganic) mat reinforcement is rot
resistant and has low moisture absorption. y `
r`WTiiu!Y°'
Use
PermaPly 28 is designed for use as the first or base ply in built -up -
and modified bitumen roof assemblies. It is ideal for applications
where mechanical attachment of the membrane to the roof
substrate or roof deck is desirable. PermaPly 28's asphalt coating
makes it suitable for use as an intermediate or ply felt in cold "- -
applied built -up and modified bitumen roof assemblies.
Advantages
• Easy to handle and lays fast.
• Exceptional pliability.
• Low moisture absorption, excellent dimensional stability and
resistance to rot make it an ideal replacement for organic base
sheets.

L AT GIasPIy® IV
Johns Manville
Description
GlasPly IV is a specially constructed ply felt that is formed by
coating a JM wet - process fiber glass mat with a light film of
asphalt which is then surfaced with a liquid parting agent that
prevents the roll from sticking to itself, while providing a clean,
easy -to -mop surface. Laying lines are applied on the top surface
of the felt so it can be installed with the exposure needed to
provide the correct number of plies required by the specification.
Use GIasPly I'1
ph, GlasPly IV is intended for use as an integral part of any built -up
or modified bitumen roofing system, over nailable and non-
nailable roof decks and approved types of roof insulation. When
installed over nailable decks, a fiber glass base sheet, such as
JM PermaPly® 28, is typically used as the first ply and is usually `_. '' -
mechanically fastened to the deck. Subsequently, layers of GlasPly
IV are set in hot asphalt to " build up" the applicable number of plies. - `
Non - nailable decks and approved insulations usually have multiple ` -, y
layers of GlasPly IV adhered directly to them with hot asphalt. Advantages
GlasPly IV has good flexibility, conformability and superior strength • Consistent tensile strength and tear resistance.

• Readily accommodates gassing by venting volatile materials
and moisture during application.
• Low moisture absorption, excellent dimensional stability and
resistance to rot makes it an ideal replacement for organic felt.
• Easy to handle, lays flat, minimizes workmanship related
problems.
• Flexibility and conformability minimizes fishmouths, wrinkling
and ridging.

bl GlasKap®
Johns Manville
Description
GlasKap is a mineral surfaced, asphalt coated, fiber glass cap -
sheet for use in hot applied built -up roofing systems. It is com-
posed of a fiber glass mat with a high - quality coating asphalt
and a white ceramic - coated granule surfacing on the side to be
exposed to the weather.
Use
GlasKap is used as the uppermost finish ply in a variety of GlasKap
built -up roofing systems. The ceramic - coated granule surfaced •
sheet provides protection to the underlying asphalt and mem-
brane, as well as the benefit of a reflective surface when white
granules are used
When installing GlasKap, it is important that the mopping
asphalt be at the appropriate temperature: 20 °F ( -7 °C) above
the asphalt's EVT is recommended.
Advantages
• Low moisture absorption, excellent dimensional stability
and resistance to rot make it an ideal replacement for
organic cap sheets.
• Low maintenance compared to roofs that use coatings.
• Should the roof be damaged, repairs are easy to make.
Typical Physical Properties GlasKap is classified by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. as a
