1.0 GENERAL PROVISIONS
1.1 SCOPE OF WORK:
ALL LABOR, MATERIAL, EQUIPMENT TOOLS, AND SERVICES REQUIRED
FOR THE COMPLETE INSTALLATION OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
AS INDICATED ON THE DRAWINGS AND SPECIFIED HEREIN SHALL BE
FURNISHED. IN THE EVENT OF CONFLICT BETWEEN THE DRAWINGS
AND SPECIFICATIONS THE LATTER SHALL GOVERN. CONFLICTS WITHIN
EITHER SHALL BE RESOLVED BY THE OWNER'S ENGINEER.
A. WORK OR EQUIPMENT WHICH IS NOT SPECIFICALLY IDENTIFIED OR
SPECIFIED, BUT WHICH IS NECESSARY FOR THE COMPLETE AND
PROPER EXECUTION OF ALL WORK CALLED FOR IN THIS SECTION
SHALL BE PROVIDED AND INCORPORATED IN THE WORK OF THE
CONTRACTOR WITHOUT ADDITIONAL COST.
B. ALL EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS SHALL BE INSTALLED IN

C. THE WORK OF THIS SECTION INCLUDES, BUT IS NOT NECESSARILY
LIMITED TO, THE FOLLOWING:
1. PROVIDE ALL LABOR, MATERIALS, INSURANCE, EQUIPMENT,
INSTALLATION, CONSTRUCTION TOOLS, TRANSPORTATION,
ETC. FOR A COMPLETE AND PROPERLY OPERATING SYSTEM,
ENERGIZED THROUGHOUT AND AS INDICATED ON THE
DRAWINGS, AS SPECIFIED HEREIN AND/OR AS OTHERWISE
REQUIRED.
2. SITE, FUELING ISLAND AND BUILDING LIGHTING AND
POWER.
3. TELEPHONE SERVICE AS REQUIRED BY THE SERVING
UTILITY.
4. CONNECTION OF MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT.
5. TESTING AND ASSISTANCE IN START-UP AS REQUIRED.
6. REFER TO MECHANICAL/PLUMBING DRAWINGS AND SPECS.
FOR ADDITIONAL ELECTRICAL WORK, EQUIPMENT AND
CONTROL WIRING TO BE FURNISHED AND INSTALLED BY THE
ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR. ALL LOCATIONS OF EQUIPMENT
SHALL BE VERIFIED BEFORE ROUGH -IN.
1.2 REGULATIONS AND CODES:
A. ALL ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT, MATERIAL AND DETAILS OF
INSTALLATION SHALL CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE
LATEST REVISIONS OF THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE OF THE
NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION; APPLICABLE STATE
CODES; REGULATIONS OF THE STATE FIRE MARSHAL; AND OTHER
APPLICABLE CODES. NOTHING IN THE PLANS OR SPECIFICATIONS
SHALL BE CONSTRUED AS PERMITTING WORK NOT CONFORMING TO
THE MOST STRINGENT OF APPLICABLE CODES. SERVICE WORK
SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE
SERVING UTILITY.
B. ALL ELECTRICAL MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT SHALL BE LISTED BY
UNDERWRITERS' LABORATORY, INC., AND SHALL HAVE THE NAME
AND TRADEMARK OF THE MANUFACTURER AND THE RATINGS MARKED
WHERE THEY MAY BE READILY OBSERVED AFTER THE EQUIPMENT
HAS BEEN INSTALLED. ALL EQUIPMENT FOR WHICH NEMA, IEEE,
AND/OR ANSI STANDARDS HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED SHALL CONFORM
TO SUCH STANDARDS.
1.3 PERMITS, FEES AND INSPECTION:
ALL ELECTRICAL PERMITS, FEES AND INSPECTIONS SHALL BE ARRANGED
FOR BY THE CONTRACTOR. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PRESENT TO THE
OWNER, PROPERLY SIGNED, ALL REQUIRED CERTIFICATES OF FINAL
INSPECTION AND APPROVAL BEFORE THE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED AS
COMPLETE.
1.4 LOCATIONS:
DRAWINGS INDICATE DIAGRAMMATICALLY DESIRED LOCATIONS OR
ARRANGEMENT OF CONDUIT RUNS, OUTLETS, EQUIPMENT, ETC., AND ARC
TO BE FOLLOWED AS CLOSELY AS POSSIBLE. PROPER JUDGEMENT MUST
BE EXERCISED IN EXECUTION OF WORK TO SECURE THE BEST POSSIBLE
INSTALLATION IN THE AVAILABLE SPACE AND TO OVERCOME LOCAL
DIFFICULTIES DUE TO SPACE LIMITATIONS AND/OR INTERFERENCE WITH
STRUCTURAL CONDITIONS. ARCHITECTURAL AND MECHANICAL DRAWINGS
SHALL BE STUDIED FOR SPECIFIC LOCATIONS THEREIN SHOWN.
1.5 CUTTING AND PATCHING:
ALL CUTTING AND PATCHING OF CONSTRUCTION WORK AND EXISTING
WALKS, PAVEMENTS AND BUILDING REQUIRED FOR PROPER INSTALLATION
OF THE ELECTRICAL WORK SHALL BE PERFORMED BY THE CONTRACTOR.
ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS SHALL BE SO MADE THAT THERE WILL BE
NO DEGRADATION OF FIRE RESISTANT WALLS, PARTITIONS, CEILINGS

1.6 TESTING:
WHEN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM INSTALLATION IS COMPLETED, AND AT
SUCH TIMES AS DIRECTED BY THE OWNER, OPERATING TESTS SHALL BE
PERFORMED FOR APPROVAL AND ACCEPTANCE, THE EQUIPMENT SHALL BE
DEMONSTRATED TO OPERATE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF
THE SPECIFICATION AND DRAWINGS. THE TESTS SHALL BE PERFORMED
IN THE PRESENCE OF THE OWNER OR HIS REPRESENTATIVES. ALL
NECESSARY INSTRUMENTS, PERSONNEL, AND COSTS FOR REQUIRED TESTS
SHALL BE CONSIDERED A PART OF THIS WORK.
1.7 RECORD DRAWINGS:
A COMPLETE SET OF ELECTRICAL CONTRACT PRINTS SHALL BE PROVIDED
AND MAINTAINED IN GOOD ORDER ON THE SITE. ALL DIFFERENCES
BETWEEN THE LOCATION OR ARRANGEMENTS INDICATED ON THE DRAWINGS
AND THOSE OF THE ACTUAL INSTALLATION, AS WELL AS REFERENCES TO
EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURERS' DRAWING NUMBERS, SHALL BE CLEARLY
RECORDED IN RED PENCIL ON THIS SET, INCLUDING MANUFACTURER'S
NAME AND CATALOG NUMBER OF PANELBOARDS, SWITCHBOARDS AND THE
LIKE. AT THE END OF THE PROJECT, CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT THE
COMPLETE PACKAGE TO THE OWNER.
1.8 GUARANTEE:
COMPLETE JOB SHALL BE GUARANTEED FOR A PERIOD OF ONE (1) YEAR
AFTER JOB ACCEPTANCE BY OWNER. ANY WORK, MATERIAL, OR
EQUIPMENT FOUND TO BE FAULTY DURING THAT PERIOD SHALL BE
CORRECTED AT ONCE, UPON WRITTEN NOTIFICATION, AT THE EXPENSE
OF THE ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR.
2.0 PRODUCTS
2.1 STANDARD PRODUCTS:
EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS SHALL, BE SELECTED FROM STANDARD TRADE
ITEMS FURNISHED BY ESTABLISHED MANUFACTURERS. UNIQUE AND
SPECIAL ITEMS WILL BE ACCEPTED ONLY FOR UNUSUAL CONDITIONS
WHERE NO STANDARD ITEMS ARE AVAILABLE. ALL EQUIPMENT AND
MATERIALS SHALL BE NEW.
2.2 RACEWAYS
AND FITTINGS:
A. ALL
CONDUIT SHALL BE RIGID METAL UNLESS OTHERWISE
INDICATED
OR SPECIFIED.
B. CONDUIT TYPES:
1.
RIGID STEEL CONDUIT, INCLUDING FITTINGS, SHALL BE
GALVANIZED BY THE HOT -DIP PROCESS WHERE UNDERGROUND
AND IN CORROSIVE AND/OR CLASSIFIED AREAS, RIGID
STEEL CONDUIT SHALL BE PVC COATED.

ELECTRICAL METALLIC TUBING (EMT), INCLUDING
FITTINGS, SHALL BE ZINC COATED STEEL. FITTINGS
SHALL BE GLAND RING COMPRESSION TYPE.

FLEXIBLE METALLIC CONDUIT SHALL BE GALVANIZED STEEL
WITH TWIST -IN TYPE CONNECTORS. FITTINGS SHALL BE
GALVANIZED STEEL.

LIQUIDTIGHT FLEXIBLE METAL CONDUIT SHALL BE
PROVIDED WITH PROTECTIVE JACKET OF PVC EXTRUDED
OVER A FLEXIBLE INTERLOCKED GALVANIZED STEEL CORE
TO PROTECT WIRING AGAINST MOISTURE, OIL, CHEMICALS
AND CORROSIVE FUMES.

NONMETALLIC CONDUIT, INCLUDING FITTINGS, FOR USE
UNDERGROUND SHALL BE HEAVY -WALL PVC, SCHEDULE 40.
C. CONDUIT FITTINGS: ALL CONDUIT FITTINGS USED WITH RIGID
STEEL CONDUIT SHALL HAVE A CAST METAL BODY MADE OF A
FERROUS METAL AND SHALL HAVE GASKETED COVERS.
2.3 CONDUCTORS:
A. CONDUCTOR TYPES: CONDUCTORS INSTALLED IN CONDUITS SHALL BE
COPPER WIRE TYPE THW, THHN OR THWN, UNLESS OTHERWISE
INDICATED OR SPECIFIED. MINIMUM CONDUCTOR SIZES SHALL BE #12,
EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE NOTED.
B. METAL -CLAD CABLE TYPE MC AND NONMETALLIC -SHEATHED CABLE
TYPE NMC MAY BE USED IN LIEU OF CONDUIT AND WIRES WHERE
PERMITTED BY CODE.
C. ARMORED CABLE TYPE AC (BX) SHALL NOT BE USED IN LIEU OF
CONDUIT AND WIRES - NO EXCEPTIONS.
2.4 JUNCTION AND PULL BOXES:
JUNCTION AND PULL BOXES SHALL BE INSTALLED IN ALL CONDUIT RUNS
WHEREVER INDICATED AND/OR WHERE NECESSARY TO FACILITATE THE
PULLING OF WIRES AND CABLES. CONDUIT BODIES SHALL NOT BE
SUBSTITUTED FOR THIS PURPOSE. JUNCTION AND PULL BOXES FOR
INTERIOR AND NON -WEATHERPROOF USE SHALL BE PAINTED STEEL.
WEATHERPROOF PULL JUNCTION BOXES SHALL BE LISTED BY THE
UNDERWRITERS' LABORATORIES, INC., AS "RAINTIGHT" BOXES AND
SHALL BE COMPLETE WITH THREADED TYPE CONDUIT HUBS AS REQUIRED.
BOXES FOR USE IN HAZARDOUS AREAS SHALL HAVE SCREW COVERS.
2.5 OUTLET BOXES:
OUTLET BOXES IN EXPOSED WORK SHALL BE CAST METAL WITH THREADED
HUBS CAST INTEGRAL WITH THE BOXES, SHALL BE OF A SIZE AND TYPE
MOST SUITABLE FOR THE OUTLET USE, AND SHALL BE FITTED WITH
APPROPRIATE SHEET STEEL OR CAST METAL COVERS AND SUITABLE
GASKETS. EACH BOX SHALL HAVE A SPARE HUB.
2.6 GUTTERS AND WIREWAYS:
GUTTERS AND WIREWAYS SHALL BE FABRICATED FROM CODE GAUGE SHEET
STEEL AND SHALL RECEIVE A STANDARD FACTORY PAINT FINISH.
GUTTERS INSTALLED WHERE EXPOSED TO THE WEATHER SHALL BE
GALVANIZED SHEET STEEL, WEATHERPROOF AND DUSTIGHT WITH GASKETS
AND NON-FERROUS SCREWS.
2.7 WIRING DEVICES:
A. SWITCHES:
1. LOCAL SWITCHES SHALL BE TOGGLE TYPE, SPECIFICATION
GRADE, RATED 125 VOLT AC, 20 AMPERES.
2. SAFETY DISCONNECT AND SPECIAL SWITCHES SHALL BE OF
THE TYPE AS INDICATED ON DRAWINGS.
B. RECEPTACLES:
1. DUPLEX RECEPTACLES FOR CONVENIENCE POWER SHALL BE
GROUNDING TYPE, SPECIFICATION GRADE, RATED 20
AMPERES AT 125 VOLT AC.
2. RECEPTACLES FOR CONNECTION OF APPLIANCES SHALL BE
OF THE TYPE AS INDICATED ON DRAWINGS, AND SHALL
MATCH THE APPLIANCE ATTACHMENT PLUGS.
C. TELEPHONE OUTLETS:
WALL TELEPHONE OUTLETS SHALL CONSIST OF A FOUR INCH
SQUARE BOX AND SINGLE GANG SWITCH RING WITH A ONE HOLE
TELEPHONE PLATE.
D. WALL PLATES:
WALL PLATES FOR ALL INTERIOR WIRING DEVICES SHALL BE
STAINLESS STEEL. WALL PLATES FOR EXTERIOR USE SHALL BE

1. ALL CIRCUIT BREAKERS SHALL BE MOLDED CASE,
CONFORMING- TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF UL 489.

2.8 SWITCHBOARDS AND PANELBOARDS:
A. ALL SWITCHBOARDS AND PANELBOARDS, INCLUDING ALL INTERNAL
COMPONENTS, SHALL BE THE STANDARD PRODUCTS OF SQUARE D
CO., AND SHALL BE OF THE CLASS, TYPE, RATING AND CATALOG
NUMBER AS INDICATED ON DRAWINGS.
B. ENGRAVED NAMEPLATES WITH 1/8* HIGH LETTERS SHALL BE PROVIDED
FOR IDENTIFICATION. NAMEPLATES SHALL BE ATTACHED WITH SCREWS.
C. A CLEAR PLASTIC - COVERED DIRECTORY SHALL BE PROVIDED ON
THE INSIDE OF EACH PANELBOARD DOOR. THE DIRECTORY SHALL
BE TYPEWRITTEN DESIGNATING EACH CIRCUIT USED.
2.09 GROUNDING:
A. WHERE INDICATED ON PLANS, GROUND RODS SHALL BE OF
COPPER -CLAD STEEL, NOT LESS THAT 5/8" IN DIAMETER, 8 FEET
LONG, DRIVEN FULL LENGTH INTO THE EARTH. ON NEW
CONSTRUCTION A "LIFER" GROUND SHALL BE USED. METAL
CANOPIES MUST BE GROUNDED.
2.10 LIGHTING FIXTURES:
A. FIXTURES SHALL BE TYPE AS INDICATED ON DRAWINGS. ALL
FLUORESCENT FIXTURES SHALL BE FURNISHED WITH
ELECTRONIC BALLAST, C.B.M. APPROVED.
B. LAMPS SHALL BE PROVIDED FOR ALL FIXTURES OF THE TYPE AND
WATTAGE AS SHOWN ON DRAWINGS.
C. ALL LIGHT FIXTURES INSTALLED OVER UTENSIL WASHING, FOOD
HANDLING OR STORAGE AREAS SHALL BE EQUIPPED WITH APPROVED
SAFETY COVERS.
2.11 LIGHTING CONTACTORS:
A. LIGHTING CONTACTORS SHALL BE THE STANDARD PRODUCT OF

3.2 CONDUIT INSTALLATION:
A. CONDUIT - FUEL PUMPS, FUEL ISLANDS, CANOPIES, AND
HAZARDOUS AREAS:
ALL UNDERGROUND CONDUITS SHALL BE DIRECT BURIED TO DEPTH
OF NOT LESS THAN 18" BELOW FINISHED GRADE (24" IF BELOW
PAVING) AND SHALL BE NO SMALLER THAN 3/4" TRADE SIZE.
ALL CONDUIT SHALL BE HEAVY WALL PVC COATED RIGID STEEL.
B. CONDUIT - EXTERIOR LIGHTS, AIR WATER UNIT, IRRIGATION
SYSTEM, TELEPHONE AND POWER:
ALL CONDUITS SHALL BE BURIED TO DEPTH OF NOT LESS THAN
18" BELOW FINISHED GRADE (24" IF BELOW PAVING) AND SHALL
BE NO SMALLER THAN 3/4" TRADE SIZE. ALL CONDUIT SHALL BE
HEAVY WALL PVC, SCHEDULE 40.
C. CONDUITS - BUILDING INTERIOR:
1. ALL CONDUITS IN FINISHED AREAS SHALL BE RUN CONCEALED IN

D. ALL CONDUIT JOINTS UNDERGROUND, IN CONCRETE OR WHERE
EXPOSED TO WEATHER OR MOISTURE, SHALL BE MADE WATERTIGHT.
E. EXCAVATION AND BACKFILL: TRENCH FOR UNDERGROUND CONDUITS
SHALL BE OF SUFFICIENT DEPTH FOR MINIMUM CONDUIT COVERAGE
NOTED OR SPECIFIED. AFTER CONDUITS ARE LAID IN PLACE, THE
EXCAVATED EARTH RETURNED TO THE TRENCH SHALL BE COMPACTED
TO THE CONSISTENCY OF THE UNDISTURBED EARTH.
F. A GALVANIZED #14 GAUGE STEEL PULL WIRD OR AN 1/8" NYLON
PULL CORD SHALL BE INSTALLED IN CONDUITS IN WHICH WIRING
IS TO BE INSTALLED BY OTHERS. SUCH CONDUITS SHALL BE
CAPPED.
G. EXPOSED CONDUIT RUNS SHALL BE PARALLEL WITH OR
PERPENDICULAR TO BUILDING OR STRUCTURAL LINES.
H. INSTALL LIQUID -TIGHT FLEXIBLE CONDUIT FOR CONNECTION OF MOTORS
AND FOR OTHER ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT WHERE SUBJECT TO MOVEMENT
AND VIBRATION, AND ALSO WHERE SUBJECTED TO ONE OR MORE OF THE
FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:
1. EXTERIOR LOCATION.
2. EQUIPMENT CONNECTION IN ALL FOOD STORAGE, HANDLING AND
PREPARATION AREAS.
3. EQUIPMENT AND OUTLET CONNECTIONS WITHIN ALL COUNTERS,
GONDOLAS, ETC.
3.3 CONDUCTOR INSTALLATION:
ALL CONDUCTORS SHALL BE INSTALLED IN RACEWAY SYSTEMS. SPLICES
IN CONDUCTORS #6 AND LARGER SHALL BE MADE WITH APPROVED
SOLDERLESS COMPRESSION CONNECTIONS. CONNECTIONS TO TERMINALS
SHALL BE MADE WITH SOLDERLESS COMPRESSION CONNECTORS.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS TO EQUIPMENT WHICH IS FURNISHED UNDER
OTHER SECTIONS OF CONTRACT AND/OR FURNISHED BY THE OWNER,
SHALL BE PART OF THE ELECTRICAL WORK. MANUFACTURERS'
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR METHODS OF CONNECTION SHALL BE FOLLOWED.
THE WORK SHALL INCLUDE CONNECTIONS TO EQUIPMENT HAVING
INTERNAL FACTORY WIRING AS WELL AS CONNECTIONS OF COMPONENTS
THAT DO NOT HAVE FACTORY WIRING.
3.4 BOXES AND SUPPORTS:
ALL BOXES AND GUTTERS SHALL BE SECURELY SUPPORTED
INDEPENDENTLY FROM CONDUIT SYSTEM. EXPOSED OUTLET AND JUNCTION
BOXES SHALL BE FASTENED SECURELY TO WALLS, CEILINGS, COLUMNS
OR BEAMS. CONDUIT SHALL ENTER THE BOXES THROUGH TIGHT
FITTINGS, BORED OR PUNCHED HOLES, AND SHALL BE SECURED TO THE
BOXES WITH SUITABLE LOCKNUTS AND BUSHINGS. ALL UNUSED OPENINGS
IN BOXES SHALL DE SEALED. EXPLOSION PROOF BOXES AND FITTINGS
SHALL BE USED IN HAZARDOUS AREA AS DEFINED BY CODE.
3.5 WIRING DEVICES:
A. SWITCHES: WHERE MORE THAN ONE SWITCH IS SHOWN AT A
LOCATION, SWITCHES SHALL BE GANGED IN ONE BOX. DOOR
SWINGS SHALL BE CONFIRMED BEFORE INSTALLING OUTLET BOXES
FOR SWITCHES. RECEPTACLES: ALL OUTLET BOXES FOR
RECEPTACLES SHALL BE INSTALLED AT HEIGHTS INDICATED.
RECEPTACLES ON BUILDING EXTERIOR SHALL. BE FLUSH MOUNTED.
B. VERIFY EXACT LOCATIONS AND MOUNTING HEIGHTS OF ALL WIRING
DEVICES BEFORE -ROUGH-IN.
C. CONVENIENCE OUTLETS, TELEPHONE OUTLETS, FLOOR AND STORE
FIXTURE OUTLETS, ETC. MAY BE RELOCATED AT THE OWNER'S
OPTION, TO A POINT WITHIN TEN (10) FEET OF THE LOCATIONS
SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS. THE RELOCATION SHALL BE PERFORMED
AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE OWNER, PROVIDED THE
CONTRACTOR IS ADVISED OF THE RELOCATION BEFORE
ROUGHING -IN BEGINS.
3.6 SWITCHBOARD INSTALLATION:
SWITCHBOARD SHALL BE INSTALLED ON CONCRETE SLAB, LEVELED AND
ANCHORED TO THE SLAB IN CONFORMANCE WITH THE MANUFACTURERS'
INSTRUCTIONS. IF FOUNDATION CHANNELS ARE REQUIRED FOR THE
INSTALLATION, THEY SHALL BE EMBEDDED INTO THE SLAB AND LEVELED
INDEPENDENTLY OF THE SLAB TO ACHIEVE A PLUMB AND TRUE
INSTALLATION OF THE SWITCHBOARD.
3.7 LIGHTING FIXTURES:
A. UPON COMPLETION OF THE FIXTURE INSTALLATION, INCLUDING
INSTALLATION OF LAMPS, ALL COMPONENT PARTS, INCLUDING
REFLECTING SURFACES EXTERIOR FINISH, AND DIFFUSERS SHALL
BE CLEAN AND UNDAMAGED.
B. RECESS MOUNTED FIXTURES INSTALLED IN SUSPENDED CEILING
SHALL BE INDEPENDENTLY SUPPORTED BY MEANS OF #12 WIRES
FROM EACH SCORNER OF STRUCTURE ABOVE.
