Geotechnical Field Report
Project: Subway Expansion Date Covered: August 30, 2012
Address: 11634 SW Pacific Highway—Tigard, Oregon Person: M. David Irish
Weather: Overcast, —48°F
Purpose of Visit: Footing Subgrade Observation Arrival: 6:50 a.m.
Requested By: Brett of Firestorm Construction Departure: 7:10 a.m.
Project Limited Geotechnical Investigation Report, Subway Expansion, Prepared by Carlson
Geotechnical Geotechnical (CGT). In progress at the time of this field report.
Report
I met with the Dave Cantwell (owner) on site. Today's visit was scheduled to observe the subgrade within the
western footing excavation for the Subway expansion footprint.
Subgrade Observations: West Footing
While on site I observed the subgrade soils within the footing excavations along the west exterior of the proposed
Subway expansion. Reference the attached foundation plan for the approximate footing subgrade area observed
during today's site visit. The footing subgrade had been over-excavated approximately 21/2 below planned footing
subgrade design grade, as recommended by CGT after our site visit on August 28, 2012. The exposed subgrade
soils consisted of native, brown, silt. Using a foundation probe with a'/z-inch tip, I probed the footing subgrade soils
in order to gauge soil consistency. The subgrade soils probed medium stiff.
Dave (owner) indicated the over-excavated area would be backfilled with controlled density fill (CDF). CGT
recommends that the CDF exhibit a minimum 28-day compressive strength of 100 pounds per square inch (psi). At
least one sample should be collected during placement of the CDF for compressive strength testing in the
laboratory.
