The plan review was performed under the State of Oregon Mechanical Specialty Code (OMSC)
2002 edition. The submitted plans are approved subject to the following. - - - - - - - _ .. _. . _ -. _ _ _ _ _ - ..
1. The building or structure shall not be weakened by the installation of mechanical systems.
Where floors, walls, ceilings or any other portion of the building or structure are required
to be altered or replaced in the process of installing or repairing any system, the building
or structure shall be left in a safe structural condition in accordance with the Building
Code. The cutting, notching and boring of framing members shall comply with OMSC
302 Sections 302.3.1 through 302.5.3.
2. Smoke detectors shall be installed in return air systems with a design capacity greater
than 2000 cfm. Upon activation, the smoke detector shall shut down the air distribution
system. Smoke detectors shall be connected to a fire alarm system and shall activate an
audible and visible alarm at a constantly attended location. OR In occupancies not required
to be equipped with a fire alarm system, actuation of a smoke detector shall activate a
visible and an audible signal in an approved location. 606.2, 606.4 & 606.4.1 OMSC
3. Equipment and appliances shall be installed as required by the terms of their approval, in
accordance with the conditions of the listing, the manufacturer's installation instructions and
this code. Manufacturer's installation instructions shall be available on the job site at the time

4. Type I hood Exhaust outlets shall be located not less than 10 feet horizontally from parts
of the same or contiguous buildings, adjacent property lines and air intake openings into
any building and shall be located not less than 10 feet above the adjoining grade level.

• 5. Every refrigerant system that shall be tested and proved tight after complete installation, and
before operation. Tests shall include both the high- and low - pressure sides of each system at
not less than the lower of the design pressures or the setting of the pressure relief device(s).
The design pressures for testing shall be those listed on the condensing unit, compressor or
compressor unit name - plate, as required by ASHRAE 15. 1108.1 OMSC
6. Refrigeration Installer Certification All persons engaged in brazing or welding related
to the installation, alteration or repair of refrigeration piping systems not regulated by the
Oregon Boiler and Pressure Vessel Program under OAR Chapter 918, Division 225, shall

7. Each appliance shall be provided with a shutoff valve separate from the appliance.
The shutoff valve shall be located in the same room and within six feet of the
appliance served. Access shall be provided to the shutoff valve. C409.5 OMSC
8. Equipment and appliances regulated by this code requiring electrical connections shall
have a positive means of disconnect in accordance with the Electrical Code. 301.7 OMSC
9. Appliances serving different areas of a building other than where they are installed shall be
permanently marked in an approved manner that uniquely identifies the appliance and the
area it serves. 304.10 OMSC
10. Appliances shall be accessible for inspection, service, repair or replacement without
removal of permanent construction. 306.1 OMSC
11. Condensate from cooling coils or evaporators shall be collected and discharged to an
approved plumbing fixture or disposal area. 307.1 OMSC
Mercury Thermostats. The State of Oregon prohibits the installation of thermostats that
contain mercury in commercial and residential buildings. "In accordance with ORS 455.355, the
disposal of thermostats that contain mercury shall be in accordance with programs established by
thermostat manufacturers, their representative or distributor, or by delivery to sites that will
ensure that the mercury does not become part of the solid waste stream or wastewater."
Approved Plans: 1 set of approved plans, bearing the City of Tigard approval stamp, shall be
maintained on the jobsite. The plans shall be available to the Building Division inspectors
throughout all phases of construction. 106.4.2 OSSC
When submitting revised drawings or additional information, please attach a copy of the
enclosed City of Tigard, Letter of Transmittal. The letter of transmittal assists the City of
Tigard in tracking and processing the documents.
