Dear Mr. Nelson and Mr. Van Domelen:
Thank you both for being very helpful and resourceful in finding solutions to the egress concerns
for this project. Based on our discussions yesterday, we are proposing the following alternates for
your consideration in lieu of relocating one of the existing egress doors:
We have discovered an error in our area calculations for the space. The originally submitted
drawing (A000) indicates the square footage of the space as 3,610 when it is actually 3,435;
establishing a base occupancy of 34. By applying 'duplicity of use', we are proposing that the
Break Room —112, Product Storage —113, File Storage —116, & I.T. Room —109 are all spaced
that are only occupied by tenants of the space which are accounted for by standard means of
occupancy load calculations. These four spaces including their surrounding walls equal 439
square feet. By subtracting this amount from the gross overall area, the resulting square footage
for the project becomes 2,996 or 30 occupants.
In addition to the information above, the contractor will install a fire alarm system throughout the
space including horns and strobes. The contractor will also install exit signs throughout the space
(not just at the exit doors) specifically to direct occupants at the back of the space toward the exit
doors. Lastly, the contractor shall post the occupancy of the space somewhere near the main
entrance.
It is our hope that you will find these proposed alternates acceptable and will proceed with issuing
the building permit at your earliest convenience. Should you have any questions or comments
