floor or roof slab or deck above and shall be securely attached thereto. These walls shall be con tunwffi tbmug concealed
spaces such as the space above a suspended ceiling. The supporting construction shall be protectedto`affoid the required fire-
resistance rating of the element supported. Hollow vertical spaces within the shaft enclosure construction wall shall be fire -
stopped at every floor level.
❑ Fire Partitions - 708 V,2 h I j -o CG)f c - - 9 '
708.4 Continuity. Fire partitions shall extend from the top of the floor assembly mow to the underside of the floor
or roof slab or deck above or to the fire- resistance-rated floor /ceiling or roof/ceiling above, and shall be
securely attached thereto. If the partitions are not continuous to the deck, aisd, where constructed of combustible
construction, the space between the ceiling and the deck above shall ie fire-blXked or draft - stopped in accordance
P
with Sections 717.2.1 and 717.3.1 at the partition line. ,,(, 7
❑ Smoke Barriers — 709 ( t y\
709.4 Continuity. Smoke barriers shall form an effective membrane continuous from outside wall to outside wall and from
floor slab to floor or roof deck above, including contmtity through concealed spaces, such as those found above suspended
ceilings, and interstitial structural and mechanical spate The iopporting construction shall be protected to afford the required
fire- resistance rating of the wall or floor supported hi buildings of other than Type DB, IIIB or VB construction.
❑ Smoke Partition — 710
710.4 Continuity. Smoke partitions shall extend from the floor to the underside of the floor or roof deck above or to the
underside of the ceiling above where the ceiling membrane is constructed to limit the transfer of smoke.
❑ Horizontal Assemblies —711
711.4 Continuity. Assembliesahall be continuous without openings, penetrations or joints except as permitted by this section
and Sections 707.2, 712.4 and 713: Skylights and other penetrations through a fire- resistance-rated roof deck are permitted to
be unprotected, provided that the structural integrity of the fire- resistance-rated roof construction is maintained.
❑ Membrane`Penetrations — 712
❑ ThroughPenetrations — 712
❑ Fire Resistive Joint System — 713
❑ Fire Resistive / Rating Of Structural Members — 714
❑ Opening Protectives — 715
❑ Ducts &.Air Transfer Openings — 716 - 716.4 Access and identification. Fire and smoke dampers shall be provided
with an approved means of access, large enough to permit inspection and maintenance of the damper and its operating parts.
..Access points shall be permanently identified on the exterior by a label having letters not less than 0.5inch (12.7 mm) in
height reading: SMOKE DAMPER or FIRE DAMPER.
