Dear Steve:
Attached is the information required by the Oregon Fire Code, Chapter 23. The information has
been revised to reflect the proposed modifications to the fire sprinklers systems. Early
•
• Suppression Fast Response (ESFR) sprinklers are to be provided throughout the warehouse area.
The information has been revised at the request of David Millette, Norlift. I understand they are
interested in applying for their racking permit as soon as possible.
Local authorities may require small hose stations. These are not a code requirement but TVF &R
has for them in the past.
Sincerely,
f > O PRO,Ft .

The information required by the Oregon Fire Code Section No. 2301.3 is:
1. Floor Plan — See attached.
2. Usable storage height — Approximately 22 -feet to bottom of open web steel trusses. Bottom of
roof deck (insulation) is at 25' 2 above finished floor. Maximum height of proposed rack
storage is 20 -feet.
3. Number of tiers — Varies. All racks 3 — 5 levels.
4. Aisle width — 11 — 14-feet.
• 5. Commodity clearance — 5' -2 W' to bottom of roof deck (insulation) and 4 -feet to sprinklers.
6. Maximum pile volume - Does not apply to rack storage.
7. Commodity Classification — Cartoned Group A plastics. Minor amount of exposed Group A
Plastics. Highest hazard commodity to be stored is digital cable control boxes with plastic cases.
8. Banded or encapsulated commodities — Shrink wrap is used to secure pallet loads. Care is taken
to avoid plastic film over top of cartons.
9. Fire department access doors. _ Multiple fire department access doors are provided in all walls.
Number and location of doors appear to meetrequirements — one door for each 100 -feet of
wall.
10. Type of fire suppression and detection — Existing design basis for ceiling level sprinklers is 0.35
g.p.m. per ft over the hydraulically most remote 4,500 -ft The large orifice (17/32 " /K =8.0)
sprinklers are 286 ° F temperature rated. Spacing does not exceed 100 ft per sprinkler. System
•
piping is wet. Water demand is sprinkler system is 1,593.1 g.p.m. at a residual pressure of 63.88 -
psig. Hose stream allowance does not appear to be included. System was installed in 1977.
Comcast has contracted with Wyatt Fire Protection Inc., Tigard, OR, to modify all existing
automatic fire sprinklers to Early Suppression Fast Response (ESFR) sprinklers. The TYCO ESFR-
K17 sprinkler will be used. Design basis is to be 12 sprinklers at 35 -psig. Design is to meet NFPA
13 requirements for uncartoned unexpanded Group A plastics to 25 -feet in a 30 -foot high
building.
11. Location of sprinkler control valves — Control valves are located at the sprinkler riser room at
the east wall. Risers are located in a riser room in the center of the east wall. Exterior access to
the riser room is not available but access is located in a lunch room separated from the general
warehouse.
12. Smoke removal and curtain boards — Skylights are provided. No smoke and heat vents are
provided. No curtain boards are provided however roof girders will serve as curtain boards.
•
13. Dimensions and location of transverse and longitudinal flues — Transverse flues are provided at
rack uprights and between pallet loads. Flues are to average 6" to 8 ". Longitudinal flues are to
be 10" between racks.
•
14. Additional information — Building is tilt -up concrete walls. Building columns are steel. Roof
structure is plywood decking on open web steel trusses and solid web steel girders. Insulation is
provided below the roof deck.
