The plan review was performed under the State of Oregon Mechanical Specialty Code (OMSC)
2004 edition. The submitted plans are approved subject to the following.
•
1. Equipment and appliances shall be installed as required by the terms of their approval, in
accordance with the conditions of the listing, the manufacturer's installation instructions
and this code. Manufacturer's installation instructions shall be available on the job site at
the time of inspection. OMSC 304.1
(Listing requires 38" min at hood vertical to cooking, and 14" at hood overhang also, limited
to cooking appliances developing surface temperature up to 600 F)
2. Provide automatic fire suppression systems for to type 1 hood prior to final inspection.
"Automatic fire suppression systems, including pre - engineered and engineered dry- and
wet - chemical fire- suppression systems, shall be listed and labeled for specific use as
protection for commercial cooking operations and shall be installed in accordance with
Section 304.1." OMSC 509.2
3. Duct systems serving a Type I hood shall be constructed and installed so that grease cannot
collect in any portion thereof, and the system shall slope not less than one - fourth unit vertical
in 12 units horizontal (2- percent slope) toward the hood or toward an approved grease
reservoir. OMSC 506.3.7
4. Termination location. Exhaust outlets shall be located not less than 10 feet horizontally from
parts of the same or contiguous buildings, adjacent property lines and air intake openings into
any building .. OMSC 506.3.12.3
5. The building or structure shall not be weakened by the installation of mechanical systems.

to be altered or replaced in the process of installing or repairing any system, the building
or structure shall be left in a safe structural condition in accordance with the Building
Code. The cutting, notching and boring of framing members shall comply with OMSC 302
Sections 302.3.1 through 302.5.3.
6. Equipment and appliances regulated by this code requiring electrical connections shall have a
positive means of disconnect in accordance with the Electrical Code. 301.7 OMSC
7. Appliances shall be accessible for inspection, service, repair or replacement without removal
of permanent construction. 306.1 OMSC
8. The gas piping system shall be tested at 10 pounds per square inch for not less than 15
minutes with no perceptible drop in pressure. "C406.4.1 OMSC
9. Capture and containment test. The permit holder shall verify capture and containment
performance of the exhaust system. This field test shall be conducted with all appliances
under the hood at operating temperatures. Capture and containment shall be verified visually
by observing smoke or steam produced by actual or simulated cooking, such as with smoke
candles, smoke puffers, etc. OMSC 507.16.1
10. Each appliance shall be provided with a shutoff valve separate from the appliance. The
shutoff valve shall be located in the same room and within six feet of the appliance served.
Access shall be provided to the shutoff valve. C409.5 OMSC
11. Condensate fro
rom cooling coils or evaporators shall be collected and discharged to an
approved plumbing fixture or disposal area. 307.1 OMSC
Approved Plans: 1 set of approved plans, bearing the City of Tigard approval stamp, shall be
maintained on the jobsite. The plans shall be available to the Building Division inspectors
throughout all phases of construction. 106.4.2 OSSC
When submitting revised drawings or additional information, please attach a copy of the
enclosed City of Tigard, Letter of Transmittal The letter of transmittal assists the City of
Tigard in tracking and processing the documents.
