The plan review was performed under the State of Oregon Structural Specialty Code (OSSC) 2004
edition; and 2003 International Fire Code (OFC) as amended by TVF&R. The submitted plans are
approved subject to the following conditions. 402.11 OSSC
1. Horizontal sliding or vertical security grilles or doors that are a part of a required means of
egress shall conform to the following:
1. They shall remain in the full open position during the period of occupancy by the general
public.
2. Doors or grilles shall not be brought to the closed position when there are more than 10
persons occupying spaces served by a single exit or 50 persons occupying spaces served
by more than one exit.
3. The doors or grilles shall be openable from within without the use of any special
knowledge or effort where the space is occupied.
4. Where two or more exits are required, not more than one -half of the exits shall be
permitted to include either a horizontal sliding or vertical rolling grille or doors.
2. All exit doors shall be openable from the inside without the use of a key or any special
knowledge or effort. 1008.1.8 OSSC
3. The means of egress shall be provided with illumination of not less than 1 foot candle at the
floor level anytime the building is occupied. The means of egress illumination shall be
provided with a second source of power in case of primary power loss. 1006.2 OSSC
4. Accessible checkout aisles shall be on an accessible route and at least 36 inches wide.
Counters in accessible checkout aisles shall be not more than 38 inches (965 mm) high and
the top of the raised edge of the counter shall not exceed 40 inches (1016 mm) in height
above the finished floor. Accessible checkout aisles shall be identified by the international
symbol of access. OSSC section 1109.19, 1109.23.3

5. Safety glazing including but not limited to: the following locations: Each unit of glazing shall
be permanently identified by the manufacturer. 2406 OSSC. Some of these locations are as
follows:
a. Glazing in ingress and means of egress doors.
b. Glazing in an individual fixed or operable panel adjacent to a door where the nearest
vertical edge is within a 24" arc of the door in a closed position and whose bottom edge
is less than 60" above the floor or walking surface except when there is an intervening
wall or other permanent barrier between the door and the glazing.
6. American with Disabilities Act (ADA): It shall be the responsibility of the Architect,
Engineer, Designer, Contractor, Owner and Lessee to research the applicability of the ADA
requirements for the structure. The City of Tigard reviews the plans and inspects the structure
only for compliance with Chapter 11 of the OSSC, which may not include all of the
requirements of the ADA
Approved Plans: 1 set of approved plans, bearing the City of Tigard approval stamp, shall be
maintained on the jobsite. The plans shall be available to the Building Division inspectors
throughout all phases of construction. 106.3.1 OSSC
Certificate of Occupancy: No building or structure shall be used or occupied until the Building
Official has issued a certificate of occupancy 110.1 OSSC
Premises Identification: Approved numbers or addresses shall be provided for all new buildings in
such a position as to be plainly visible and legible from the street or road fronting the property.
When submitting revised drawings or additional information, please attach a copy of the enclosed
City of Tigard, Letter of Transmittal. The letter of transmittal assists the City of Tigard in
tracking and processing the documents.
